Hey, they work well. Make sure you remove mouse as soon as you notice blinking. If you don't, and if you have more mice, the others will drag and eat the dead mouse. Even with dead mouse gone it won't reset due to any remains left behind.

Rats were eating all our chicken food at night. I bought 2 traps and caught about 6 of them. Bought 2 more and the total is now over 30. I used fresh chicken pellets for bait, it has a very strong smell when fresh. One trap stopped working after a couple weeks. I reached out to support, they sent me a video that showed how to test the unit. I sent them the results and they shipped a new one to me. I wish I could give it 10 stars. It has saved me $$$ in chicken feed.

Don’t question it get it! I’ve had a rat chewing under my kitchen sink and absolutely nothing worked he would eat the peanut butter off the snap trap. Got this it took about a week but it got it. And it was huge 😩

  • M***e ★★★★★

So I bought this trap because we had a bad rodent problem coming in from outside. They made huge holes in the walls outside and eventually found their way in. I bought this because the glue traps weren’t strong enough. The first week, we caught about 4 and then kept catching them as time went on. It was a temporary fix, as I eventually got the exterminator to put poison in the walls, and that got rid of themFor good. But for sure, this electric trap works!

  • G***r ★★★★★

We were battling a rat in our walk out crawl space. I prefer to avoid using bait because it is less humane and poses a danger to pets and wildlife if they ingest a rat that has eaten poison. I am also not a fan of glue traps which is what we were using previously. A friend told me about these. We were able to catch the rat with the first two days!

Magnificent! Have tried other traps which work but are more effort. Finally found this one as had persistent mice in the garage eating our bird seed.Worked over the first night.Have killed at least 7 since buying it.It’s fast and humane. And clean up is as easy as pouring the body into the trash.Going to get a second one.

  • R***r ★★★★★

So far so good. 2 for 2 so far. Seems like there is one more under fridge and got it baited for him. They were getting the dogs dry food so I put some spray cheese and a cpl of pieces of the food in there and it seems to do the trick. I was skeptical at first, but now a believer!

  • A***l ★★★★★

This works great! I like this rather than using poison so the stray cats don't eat a rodent that has eaten poison! This works very well and I'm so pleased with it!

  • c***e ★★★★★

Definitely worth the money! Took care of our mouse problem the first night we put them out! A lot safer if you have pets and children in the home.

  • A***m ★★★★★

Great for outdoors and catches great. Just do not put where it can get wet.

We have used this for almost a year. In our rental unit it caught a nice huge pregnant rat that saved us from a massive headaches When we moved we noticed we had invaders in our garage so we set it up again. First night while using left over meat loaf for bait it caught two mice. Apparently they were it.. We then had another invader in my husband’s work shop and got another mouse using good old peanut butter. It does exactly what we ask. We don’t have a rodent problem because of it. Plus I who can’t handle dead things can pull it off with this.

  • D***n ★★★★★

Loaded a small piece of cheddar cheese and am up to 7 rats so far. Had to find the right place to set up, cut holes in a plastic container, inverted over the top of it to protect, then one after the other.

  • K***e ★★★★★

Out of all the mice or rat deterrents this one is by far the best! You don't have to touch the dead rodents. Just toss them in the trash, reset it and you're good to go!

  • I***L ★★★★★

Tried glue, snap, bucket, last thing I was going to try was poison but didn't want to. I ordered this taking a chance, and it got the smartest rat I've ever dealt with. I wish I spoke to myself earlier and got it.

  • T***s ★★★★☆

I have had 2 of these, the first one worked well for a couple years. The replacement was defective. The critters kept eating all the bait and walking away. I’ll probably try another one because I think the one I got is defective and price is better.

  • C***n ★★★★★

It works, just put this near a wall where you have seen rodent activity, and leave some bait outside the trap for a day or two then it will eventually go inside the trap for the bait inside of it.

  • E***u ★★★★★

Mice would always steal the bait on my live traps. This works amazingly. Use peanut butter and a small piece of dried dog treat for bait. Even caught a vole!

  • D***s ★★★★★

Pretty good one! Catches everything , difficult mouses and rats fall with this one

  • F***x ★★★★★

I have to admit I was sceptical at first. We tried non lethal traps at first which worked once and released it at a near by stream where it probably came from, but another one, or the same one lol, eventually made it's way back in the house. Decided to find something that was more humane in getting rid of him. After reading a lot of reviews on other types of traps we decided to go with this one.We did our best to make sure that "Ralphie" had little to no options so that he would take the bait. I saw him on camera roaming around looking for anything else that was available outside of the trap. After about 47 minutes he finally went in. I saw a flash and then the blinking light. We used crunchy peanut butter as the bait and spread it in the bait compartment. Clean up was easy. Turned it off, dumped him in the bag, took off the top, wash and dried the bottom half and then wiped down the top. Ready for another one that might make its way in the house.Wasn't sure if I was going to like the fact that this unit didn't come with an AC adapter, but being battery operated made it easier for placement. Just make sure to take precautions if you have kids in the house. The entrance is big enough for them to stick their hands in there so give warning and put it away after use.Extremely satisfied with the results.

It is expensive but effective and practical product.

IT GOT HIM. very large rat now if I could figure out how it got in. As usual metro destroying old buildings and replacing and running out the mice and rats. Also got one with sticky mat, this is nicer, DOA Thanks set under sink, next morning saw big ugly tail sticking out...DEAD Worth the money.

  • J***r ★★★★★

Highly effective! Light goes off when animal is killed. Hold upside down to dispose dead animal into the garbage, and reuse again & again. Still have not had to change batteries in this! Very safe around my Dog also. Highly recommend!!!

  • H***i ★★★★★

These things are amazing. They do the job that multiple other traps could not. Easy to dispose of rodents, easy to clean, easy to use. Batteries last a long time too.

  • o***b ★★★★☆

Very effective dispatched 3 rodents now , location and bait seem to be key switching out and changing bait and cleaning the trap helps ,I have been using poison blocks previously in regular bait boxes for a while but the critters seem to now be immune so this is keeping up the fightthe original battery’s are holding out and the flashing led letting you know you’ve got one is handy so you don’t need to disturb the trap to check

  • R***H ★★★★★

Works great! I have caught 10 mice so far. I am using it in my chicken coop.

After numerous attempts to catch some very smart rats we had found that got into our house, I found this item in my search to get something that would actual work. After reading the reviews and watching the videos, I decided to spend the money and give this a try...boy was I amazed!! The second day after we received this product we got 2, on the third 1. It is simple easy and works like a charm. I don't write reviews normally, but I was so impressed with this product...it is well worth the money in my opinion, I highly recommend this device...especially if you have a very smart rat that will outwit you :)

  • n***r ★★★★★

I spent a day chasing a Norwegian rat more than 45 cm long around my living room. I remembered that I had two of these traps that I bought a year ago. I used Nutella. It took less than 10 minutes. Effective and simple. Two pieces of advice. One, wear gloves when setting up the trap so that you don't have a human smell. Too, be prepared and if it's a large rat the tail may be sticking out the end!

Rats moved into our basement about a month ago. Large sticky traps initially worked to catch five of them. But even with a cat on duty, we kept hearing them in the kitchen two weeks later. We hired a rodent company to seal up all access points outside of the house. We just now had to wait 1-4 weeks until any existing rats got hungry enough to take the bait on the traps. Rat traps were set under the house that the rodent company will check weekly. But it was up to us to deal with any that got in the house. We realized the rats liked our cat food bowl which we now keep in the fridge.I ordered the large rat trap version and received it the same day. I put cat food in as bait. No action over night. But just before noon the next day, I hear some buzzing sound. I thought it was a speaker acting up but it was the rat trap in the kitchen with a large tail sticking out. I waited another minute after the buzzing stopped and shook the rat out. Its chest was still moving but the rest of its body was motionless. I disposed of it after there was no chest movements a couple minutes later. Even if we don't catch another rat, I'm happy with this purchase.

  • T***l ★★★★★

This is the best rat trap i have bought, its very essential, safe and secure, non toxic. its cleverly designed enclosure that allows rats to enter but not escaping because of the shock that is generated from the machine. I will rate this product 5 stars if i could i would rate 10... its carefully designed and handcrafted to perfection!!

  • S***h ★★★★★

Nothing works as weel as these electric traps. I bought the rat size for my mouse problem per a suggestion from another reviewer. HE was right... the electric MOUSe traps are a pain to bait, clean & empty. Rat trap is easier to clean and rebait & you dont have to dismantle it every time you want to dump the "catch". Don't use any of the smap traps anymore. They often times only mame, but not kill the little critters. Seems, very inhumane to put them thru tht pain. My crows & owls are really enjoying the catch from the electric traps.

  • I***o ★★★★★

Worked as advertised! In less than 24 hours it made the kill.. It's easy to dispose the catched rodent.

  • R***a ★★★★★

Took one day to kill mice. Works. Mice were smart and avoided the spring traps.

  • C***F ★★★★☆

The product definitely worked. I live on a farm and bought one of these for my barn. Caught the rodent in one day. It did go through batteries quickly.

  • C***s ★★★★★

I am very happy with this purchase. So much easier and nicer than other traps. I bought 2 rat and 2 mice traps. I only have mice. However, you can never be too safe. I’d rather have too big than too small.I placed 1 rat tap and 1 mouse trap each inside and outside. I killed 1 mouse outside and 1 in the kitchen. I felt like Ghostbusters when they caught a ghost. The light signals when you caught something. It’s a purchase you can’t go wrong with. I love both my rat and mouse traps. I’m going to keep stacking the dead mice bodies. If I had 1 wish it would that you didn’t require so many batteries. However I am very happy with the end result.so I will make sure to have spare batteries. Loving this purchase.

we live in the suburbs where they're always digging draining or something disrupting the natural order of thing having animals currying about and into small opening in homes. i felt really bad destroying the little creatures however this seeming to a more humane way of taking a life (i guess sort of)put them down in less than 24 hours we were rodent free it's been about a month and no more mickey or his friends. good job

Worked awesome!! Bought two of these as my shed has just been taken over by two large rats making a mess of everything and leaving their calling cards everywhere. Got the smaller (female?) first night I put it out. Got the larger one last night (see pic). He had a body about 7" long, 13" or so counting the tall. He was heavy. I've used the other brand (zapper) for years but lately they haven't held up very well. Hopefully this brand will. This one is easier to clean. Note: in my experience it usually takes at least 3 days before rats will attempt to take food as they are smart, reason why I'm overjoyed. PS: Got a third one last night, all from the one location up on shelf.

Visiting my mother's house; discovered that mice (and a rat) had taken over. The Owltra worked well first night and dispatched a second a few days later. Only is it takes a little work to get the top off to clean (make sure to switch to "off" and remove the batteries first, also wearing throwaway food prep gloves is recommended so as not to taint the device with your human smell). The white flashing notification light that I had caught the little beggars worked as it was designed. The local wildlife appreciated the free mouse snacks. On the other hand, the rat is still wary (as I have learned they naturally are) so I'm waiting to see...On an additional note: smooth peanut butter with a dash of cinnamon as bait seems to attract them nicely. The close-able bait opening to insert a knife tip of peanut butter without having to open the top of the unit made it easy to refill.

Absolutely love this product. I live in Hawaii so I have jungle problems and the rats are one of them. Here they are humongous. As a female, this has made such an easier process getting rid of a rat. Plus, it’s safer than using poison, so other animals don’t get sick. Very effective trap.

  • D***r ★★★★★

Not sure why some give this a bad rating. I have had it for 3 days and so far have gotten 2 mice with no issues of any kind. Bought the rat size so after the house is cleared, I will put in in the garage to see if the chipmunks that get in there get caught.

  • M***N ★★★★★

I’ve been dealing with a rodent for two weeks. Nothing worked. I finally decided to go with the rat sized electric shock trap because I realized I could’ve been dealing with a rat instead of a mouse.Sure enough, the morning after I set the trap I am greeted with a massive roof rat inside. I used Trader Joe’s honey peanut butter with one chocolate chip as bait and it worked like a charm.

  • M***i ★★★★☆

Worked at least once so far. Took about 4 days to catch a rat and haven't gotten another one in 5 days since. Wish the bait area was easier to add bait to it. Only flaw I have found, or would have given it a 4

  • b***n ★★★★★

I don't yet know how long it will last but so far, so good. Super easy to set up, change batteries, and clean. Before we rat-proofed the enclosed lanai, this was a real help. And I even put it outside (but well protected from any possible moisture) and killed a few rats that were going for my organic produce in my garden.

  • K***L ★★★★★

Sooo much better than glue traps.. easy to set up... and works... took a couple days for elusive mouse to realize it was only food option available.. but when it did... super easy clean up just dumped and wiped down inside with a alcohol wipe.. put in new bait and ready to go... definitely will buy more of these and save $ on repeatedly buying glue traps... plus it's safe to have with my dog who is 100% not interested in trap but trap has safeguards to keep pets safe from accidental shock... really impressed with this and am so buying more

  • K***B ★★★★★

This thing owns every other rat trap. It's humane and doesn't leave a mess. You can dump the dead rat without touching it. I've caught 6 so far on the same set of batteries. It was trial and error figuring out what our giant "avocado orchard" rats like. Fruit usually does the trick like a blackberry or apple chunk. The bait plate is kinda small and would be harder to clean if you have big hands. Otherwise this trap is worth it especially if you have a smart rodent who evades classic traps.

  • D***z ★★★★★

I’ve used a similar trap before and that one took about 2 weeks of just waiting for it to work. I kid you not only 2 hours after opening and setting it up boom we have dead pest. Super effective and easy to use. I should have got a bigger version though.

  • B***z ★★★★★

The batteries last and effective. I do recommend this product

  • M***M ★★★★★

I am very pleased with this product.Im amazed at how many mice have been caught so far using this. I tried the glue traps after a while the larger mice got smart and avoided the trap at all cost. Ever since i have used this new gadget i have been able to catch mice daily. Once caught The mouse just slides out easily into a bag and i can toss out. I highly recommend. Very easy to use and very effective.

  • j***s ★★★★★

Works like a charm. Been having mice issues since they started construction all around us. There was one mouse we could not catch with anything. Strongest glue trap, sensitive snap traps. Got this guy as a last resort, and two days later we got him. Bug fella too. And it has enough juice left to get another. No mess. Easy to set up

  • S***e ★★★★★

My friend has a couple of these, and she told me they really worked. Because they’re a little pricey, I only bought one. I’ve already killed 2 rats with it. I’d say it’s effective and durable. I’ve had mine outside for 2 or 3 weeks. I just move it around. I look for where rat poop is, then I move it to around that spot. I never have to touch the dead rat because the lid pops off, and I just dump the rat (it does not stick to the metal plates) into a trash bag. Great for pest control. I highly recommend.

  • I***g ★★★★★

It works!I was very skeptical till I saw a rat tail. The customer service is prompt. A 5-star product!

  • M***n ★★★★★

I use these on a ranch, in our vehicles. I check them everyday to preserve the batteries & reduce cannibalism. Very clean system. Field mice and wood rats (very intelligent and nearly a pound in weight) have perished. I use different types of traps for different types of locations and this one is ideal for the vehicles. When the trap has a success it blinks its green light and I can see the tip of the tail instead of the grisly aftermath of a spring trap or the horror of a glue trap. The corpse looks like the interloper is sleeping. I’m starting to make friends with the local crows. They probably like my cooking.

  • M***s ★★★★★

I just left a little piece of burger meat and 2 days after that, you can see…I loved!!

  • M***A ★★★★★

We had a clever mouse in our kitchen who would eat the bait off typical traps and not spring them. After setting up this electronic trap (don't forget the 4 c-cell batteries) the mouse was dead the next morning. Two thumbs up!

Updated: After dispatching my nemesis rat I found chipmunks were living under my air conditioner. They dug out under it and it started to sink. They were persistent in that every time I filled it they dug more holes. I used it outside even though it is the indoor one and it was fine but I didn't leave it out overnight or if the weather looked wet.It has no problem taking down chipmunks. I used sunflower seeds. Squirrels seemed to be able to get into the trap and eat the seeds from the bait tray without triggering any shock most of the time. Pretty sure a few got zapped but they were not gravely injured.___I've been through every rat killer from the basic traps, to various poisons, to the upgraded plastic snap traps, to bb gun and finally decided to get this one. Never glue traps though. We back up to woods and the rats find their way into the basement every now and again and each of various methods above would work for a while and then stop working. The plastic snap traps worked very well for a long time but somehow it seemed like the knowledge to avoid them got passed on. Same with the poisons. The basic wood traps were mostly a waste of time. There was - and I mean was - one rat left that knew everything. It wasn't destructive like other rats, it didn't bring in other rats and you wouldn't know it was here if you weren't specifically looking for the signs. I sort of accepted it in a live and let live kind of way for a year and a half. But it tore a couch open one night and I needed to seal up all the holes in the crawlspace/basement because the cold air was getting in. It made more holes. It took about 4 days for this rat to stop avoiding this trap. I use bird seed as bait, especially sunflower seeds in the shell. First I kept the lid off and placed it in a spot I knew it went to with some seed around the trap and a few pieces inside. When it finally grabbed a few pieces from the from of inside the trap I put the lid on and kept baiting the front of the trap. It got.

This trap does not disappoint. I finally got the elusive rat

  • K***C ★★★★☆

No more bloody mess from a snap trap - no missing your target and them running off with the trap! It's discrete and gets the job done. I put these on my counters when I can tell there's activity up high because there's nothing nasty about it; whereas I'd never do that with a snap or sticky trap. Also, pet safe, unless you have a pet the size of a rat or smaller. My dog and cat can't get in it and get shocked so I can place it anywhere. (I didn't test on a kids arm, perhaps if my kids were younger I wouldn't put within their reach)4 stars because it doesn't flash that the batteries are low/weak, but it doesn't seem to have enough power to kill a rat after 5-6 kills. (my bait was gone, but no rat was caught is how I assume this; that or my unit is going bad already?)

  • M***o ★★★★☆

good product and efficient a rat got into the attic and on the first day it was caught

  • K***r ★★★★★

It takes either c or d batteries. I can't remember which, but I just put a little bit of peanut butter inside and they walk in and they get to the food shocks them and kills Em. No metal traps that snap their necks. Kinda creeps me out. But this works really well, and once there's a mouse in there or a rat. It flashes, so you know something's in the trap. Sometimes it'll take weeks, and then all of a sudden there'll be another one in it, so worth the money.

By far the best rodent trap out there. I tried snap traps , glue traps, live cage , and the drill bucket and nothing worked. I figured I will give this a try. Within the first half hour I caught one. Set it back up and a couple of days later caiught another. Long story short I have caught 7 in 2 weeks.

I’ve owned this trap for over two years now. I wanted to give it a significant time period before I gave my review that way it could be a true and fair review. So i’ll start by saying when I buy things online, im the type of person that reads the bad reviews rather than the good ones. Safe to say, the 1 star reviews for this product had me very skeptical and hesitant to purchase. Obviously I still decided to give it a shot because mice were running through my room like they were doing an American Ninja Warrior course. The trap comes and I set it up. I used a slice of cheese with peanut butter on top as bait. The first night of this trap being set up, I couldn’t even get a good night of sleep because I was waking up every 30 minutes to an hour to empty this trap. This is no exaggeration, I caught 7 mice that night. Since then, I’ve lost count of how many mice I’ve caught. At first, the mice were big but it’s been so effective that the mice I catch now are babies. We used to hear them running around in the ceiling but now it’s rarely a sound up there. They go for the bait very well. I don’t keep any open food or anything in my room so I don’t know if that makes a difference in terms of them searching for food and finding the bait. However they could also just be desperate because I currently don’t have any bait in the trap and I still have no problem catching mice.So overall, my experience has been extremely positive with this product. It’s very effective. I would say if you’re dealing with mice, get the rat trap. If you’re dealing with rats, get the larger rodent trap. I currently have the rat trap and I don’t think a rat could fit in this trap but the mice fit perfectly fine and that probably makes them more comfortable with going into the trap. Pay attention to the areas you tend to hear the mice in and set up the traps in those areas. From my experience, the mice seem to use consistent routes when moving around so I placed the trap along that route and the rest has.

I have to say this is the best trap I have ever used, did what it said!5 big rats and baby rat , in two days. All I used was two peanuts, I checked next morning long tail hanging out the back big fat rat sleeping forever,I 100% suggest you buy this one , I have no more rats!Just so you know i don’t write reviews, but this one I just had to it worked so good.I wanted to add a update, We had more rats then we thought. So we have had the trap now for a month now, Get ready for this!34 big rats in one month! I only use two peanuts as bate.It use's 4 C Battery's, and I have not had to replace them yet.I don't know where they are all coming from, But my new air B and B with free continental breakfast, has them checking in , And out in a body bag.The way I use this is, any path way they use i place it right in the path. And they just keep coming! I have tried every thing to get them out, the thing is there smart you getone, And they learn not to go there, with this they die, no blood no guts no poison very clean and humane! they suffer on the glue traps. If you have rats check your trap every 8 to 10 hours, The light will be blinking every 10 sec if you haveone.I am going buy me two more to get them all!!Best buy I have made I years 100%

I think glue traps are horrible and inhumane, the snapping traps are sad to me— they don’t always die instantly and I’m afraid my dog will get to it. Saw a mouse in my living room, I ordered this and it arrived the next morning. It caught and killed the mouse the same night we set it up. Haven’t used it on bigger rats but it worked for a mouse!

I purchased Owltra rat trap and deployed it in the garage where it immediately trapped a rat! Then, however, after I had cleaned and and put fresh bait in the trap it would not turn on. I contacted the company via email through the contact information provided by Amazon. They got back to me the same day. I sent a follow-up email to which I attached the Amazon invoice, to which they responded the same day. They send out a new trap head which I received one week later. I was very impressed by their courteous, and prompt response.I also purchased their mousetrap at the same time that I purchased the rat trap, and to date, eight months later, I have encountered no problems with it.Bottom line is that if you have problems with one of their products do not hesitate to contact customer service!Craig, Alpine California

This works great except when the floor gets dirty. I have it down at my barn and I've been catching about 1 mouse a day. Then when I notice the bait is gone and no rodent I realize I have to clean the floor. I've been cleaning it with WD-40 and wiping it dry which seems to work because it has a little fish odor which seems to attract. i really like that it kills immediately with no suffering

I have been battling rats-not mice-in my garage and I can't seem to find where they are getting in at. The no kill trap has worked but I think some are too large and keep tripping the trap with no catch. I purchased this trap and have caught 5 rats in 2 days. The installation and instructions were easy to follow. Haven't had to deal with a bloody mess. I do recommend if you're dealing with an infestation.

I set these up in the grain room in my chicken coop after spotting some rats. I swear these things just being present have scared them all off! I’ve checked daily though, batteries are holding up great…I will be excited to come back and update my review on this product! 🤞🏻

Kills rats, easy disposal, easy set up. Worth every penny!

Very happy with these! We’ve been using peanut butter in them and it works great. I hate having to kill any furry creature but this is the most humane way. It really does seem to electrocute them right away - no suffering. I recommend getting the “rat” trap over the “mice” one as it’s larger but works for smaller rodents as well.

It finally got triggered and light flashed indicating it went off last night. No rat inside. Bait licked clean. Small urine spot but no dead rat. Brand new batteries. I was hoping I wouldn’t have to go to snap traps, but this obviously doesn’t work as advertised. Edit, it killed one the next day.

  • K***e ★★★★★

Popped in 4 AA batteries, added a skosh of peanut butter and we were in business! I like the way the light flashes green to indicate it's working and when a mouse has entered eternal peace. It's easy to empty, turn it off first. I tried the non toxic to pets mouse pellets, I guess they're non toxic to mice as well.I'm pleased with this brand.

I have to say that this rat trap does work. I have tried several times to trap a rat in my garage. It would eat the bait but not trigger the trap. So, I decided to try something else. I was able to catch the rat the first evening I put the electric trap out. I am so happy that I don't have to call in a pro to help.

This does catch mice, we have caught numerous but it pays too move it around and vary the bait. It also stuns cockroaches.

We had this rat run around for month. We tried everything to catch it & this was the only thing that actually worked.I set it up in the morning & 5 hours later we got it .

Bought two of these to catch rats. In place for 6 weeks. The rats run right past and will not go inside for peanut butter or slim Jim meat. Very disappointed.Ok round two. Rats ignored all baits, Tried salted with shell on sunflower seeds. Placed seeds near trap to get them accustomed to "free' food....then placed a trail to and into the device. It worked, killed em all over two week period. My friggin rats were very clever/smart. Took a while to appeal to their greed for a stash of sunflower seeds. They ignored everything else I did including victor traps with all kinds of bait.

  • N***e ★★★★★

It was easy to set up, I left it where I had seen some activity and when I checked it the next day there was one in there. Love that I don’t have to touch anything for removal and it’s not messy at all. The only thing I would say was a bit difficult was putting the peanut butter in the bait area, instructions say to make sure none of it get on the actual plates, it’s kind of small and hard to reach. Not looking forward to clean out the peanut butter either. I have more than one rat so I’ve put it back and I’m curious to see if the rest of them will follow suit or if they won’t go near it now.

Listen... Rats are too damn smart for their own good! We had neighbors two doors down who died and their house was cleaned out. As soon as their house started getting cleaned out, rats infiltrated all the houses nearby (including ours). We. Tried. EVERYTHING! Standard traps, humane traps, poison (all flavors and varieties available), glue traps, bucket traps... The most effective out of the above was the glue trap but ONLY if they got on it just right. We caught more hair than rats because those suckers are so smart. With this electric trap? We didn't see the killing for weeks. We put rice in it since that seemed to be the item they were attracted to the most in our pantry. Then, lo and behold, one day I noticed the green light was SOLID! It had killed a HUGE freaking rat. It barely fit in the trap! I cannot tell you how excited I was! I tossed that nasty thing out and reset it. Next night, another on! Next night, another one! It's like DJ Khaled. We eventually beat the brats and didn't see any rat sign for months. Cold weather hit. Suddenly, our dog was alerting us to the dark corners and cabinets underway that rats used to inhabit. We kept telling him he was crazy. I decided to put my flashlight on tonight and show him how nuts he was... And WHAT DO I SEE IN THE ELECTRIC TRAP?! A big ol possum of a male rat! Dead! I'm about to buy some more and set these suckers up everywhere. By the way, I've never changed the batteries since we originally bought this in January 2024!! It's now November 2024. Talk about consistency! It won't be quick to get rid of your rats but it WILL eventually work! You gotta be smarter than these beans.

I caught a mouse the very first day I set it up. This works so much better than some of the other similar mouse and rat traps that I have found. It is big enough to catch a rat as well as the mice.

  • s***d ★★★★★

I am very happy and satisfied with the delivery, packaging, etc. Most importantly, my conscience is at ease with this product. Glue traps are super cruel as they cause hours and hours of suffering before the rat dies. Rat poison also causes suffering, as animals go through internal bleeding and sometimes days of pain before dying. Live catch and release traps are also cruel, because unless you immediately notice the trapped rat and release them, they can go through hours of fear from the entrapment. Lastly, the mechanical snap traps (which I consider the second best option) can sometimes miss the neck and cause tremendous pain. I have seen this one happen myself. This zapper, however, kills in seconds. I've caught many rats with it. And I get to throw them away fully dead! (as opposed to still alive and suffering on a glue trap). As a reminder, the best and most effective way for pest control is eliminating all routes of entry into the house and keeping food in closed containers. But if you need something to kill the ones already inside, I highly recommend this product. Pretty effective for this price. My only criticism is there is no light to show that the device is on and working. (You get a red light if the battery is low and green light if there's a rat caught).

  • D***i ★★★★★

I was really hesitant to buy these because of the price, but they’re definitely worth it. I’ve caught 3 rodents at this point. They work exactly how they say they will. Just make sure you buy batteries also when you buy these.

This is actually my first ever product review, but this little thing is so good I had to make one.First off, we live in Florida and our home got overrun with roof rats. We had pest control come with glue traps and spray and nothing was catching these guys. I’m also very against glue traps because it was traumatizing for me and pure torture for the little guys. Finally I bought these rat traps and by golly am I glad I did! First night and we got the mama rat! Mama has avoided every other deterrent and is very smart. I thought it would take days or weeks to catch her. Now we just got to catch all the babies! Highly recommend if you are against other traps that cause slow suffering and you want something that works fast and efficiently!

I live in a very historic house full of holes, nooks, and crannies that mice and pack rats can squeeze into in order to escape the cold. Glue traps are so inhumane in my opinion, rat poison is bad for the environment, and pack rats don’t fit in traditional snap traps, plus it’s messy and gruesome to clean. This electric rat trap absolutely changed my life for the better honestly; I’ve caught at least 5 sizable pack rats quickly and easily with this trap. The battery life is amazing, it’s super durable and easy to clean as well. It’s super simple to just remove the top and add in new bait, plus it’s quick, effective, and humane; I absolutely recommend this trap for anyone with a rodent problem!

Ordered in the army afternoon; delivered by 10 PM; said need 4 C batteries; woke up early bought batteries; set up with peanut butter on parchment paper like video review said; went to work at 9am; came home for lunch and the rat was dead. this thing ate a whole bag of dcon poison and would not die. however this trap is very effective.

**4 MONTH UPDATE**I am using two of these now. A couple more things I noticed--Batteries need to be FRESH. Seems to not work so well when each C cell gets under ~1.35 volts.-Humidity does not help; In damp environments, the cell ends need more cleaning as there is not much spring tension and oxidation builds up. I've applied DeOxit spray to the terminals and it cleared the issue.Otherwise, both are working as advertised!________________________________________I month review-I've had this trap for around a month and it's zapped at least a dozen mice. It did have issues after the 3rd mouse; the mouse urine might have disrupted or shorted the high voltage plates. A quick wipe with water/alcohol and function was restored.Another pro tip with any rodent trap- try to NOT have your scent on the trap. Rodents have an exceptional sense of smell and will pick up your hand oils. Wear gloves when handling.

First night in the chicken coop and we snagged a big one. The same one I imagine evaded the bait and every other thing we tried to do. That was a great catch. They are extra high this year, coming in the garage, the cat brought one in the house alive, and thank goodness my husband is like the mink man and snatched it with his hand, good man! This was a big trap and that rat filled the whole thing. The only downside is ants, and they always get all over the peanut butter and the rats when they’re dead. I did just buy the. Rinne original rotating trap that I will put in the coop to hopefully catch more than one at a time and I will put this one in an area in the garage where I think they might be coming in. But, this is great keeper. I had a small one years ago, but it only would catch small ones. I liked that this will catch the big mama. If only my cat wouldn’t bring them in the house alive, he’s a great mouse catcher, but I can’t have that

We have had one rat, that we know of, who has been hard to kill. We tried rat poison, both packets and liquid. Nothing seemed to work. I bought a two pack of the rat zappers and put a small piece of chocolate candy with pecans in one. Apparently he liked that. Set the trap last night. My husband checked this morning, and he is no more! We are going to continue to use it just in case there are more rats. I highly recommend this product. You may have to switch up the bait until you find the kind they like.

At first the rodent wasn't going to it but after 2 weeks of having it and placing it in a area where the rodent would have more incentive to get the brain in there it worked! Definitely will buy more if I come across anymore rodent problems.

Once I bought this, I gave up using other snap traps, glue pads, and such. very easy to dispose of the dead one. They sure don't drag this trap away if it was a big and strong rat. I know because I have a security camera pointing at this trap to see it working. I like it so much I bought a second one around the house.

Recently had some rats/mice invade our home. We have went to war with them and slowly making some progress with these electric traps and some poison bait. I wish they would go into the traps faster but once them find the trap and go in to it to get some delicious peanut butter they get sent to rat heaven.

  • r***t ★★★★★

So I originally bought this trap in 2022 along with a variety of other traps, but this was by far the most effective at catching and killing. No more messy clean up or times when larger vermin were able to shake themselves free from snap traps. I plugged the hole they were getting in through but I left the trap in my kitchen. It lay dormant there until last night when it managed to get trap and kill a new one, and on the same batteries I'd put in when I first bought it. Needless to say I am very impressed that it's still going after two years.

Before buying these electric traps I bought those sound pest repellents and they didn’t work with rats at all. I was looking for a humanely way to get rid of them so I bought these and it really worked, fast and clean. I've tried several brands of electronic traps over many years. They all work, but the Owltra is the best in my opinion. It seems to have the longest battery life, (they make one that can run on a usb plug), however the very best feature is that they come apart to clean. If you've ever forgotten to check the trap for a few days in summer, you can have a mess inside. To clean most you need to take the batteries out, rubber glove, and stick your hand inside with a paper towel or rag soaked in alcohol or cleaner. It's unpleasant. These come apart with the electronics separating from the base making it very easy to clean. These are all I buy now.

I did not add pictures of the dead rats, apologies but that seemed to be a bit disturbing. So after purchasing the mouse traps we realized that what we had were rats and to big to fit the mouse traps. That being said, we did have mice as well which those did catch. The rat traps, we got the set of two, each caught a single rat on back to back nights. The third night we hit what everyone else was saying. Rat got in, took bait, got out. I did reach out to support after two nights of this happening. Within hours they responded. Sent me a video to test the traps functionality letting me know that they would replace the upper if it was not. Test showed it working fine. They also suggested a wet towel in front of the trap. We had noticed some really nasty (dirty) footprints in the trap. So wet towel it was, and next morning dead rat. Did this again the next night, next morning another dead rat.So the short of it, these work and work well. Support is outstanding, at least in my case it was. And if you do have a problem with them getting in and out, try a wet towel. Sounds kind of odd, but I can verify that it does work. This is the most humane method I've ever seen, and after trying everything else which they did outsmart, this solution just worked! We're down four rats and three mice. Thank you OWLTRA! (Disclaimer, I was not given these. I found these when a co-worker suggested getting electric traps. Completely paid out of pocket for four traps in total.)

The trap definitely will work, but the batteries died and a critter stole the peanut butter Scott free. I’ll change them out (it’s been 6 weeks) and I’ll update when I find a victim. It doesn’t have any smell, has a great build quality compartment for the bait, and I won’t have to deal with or see the rodent when discarding - major plus. I check every other day, so there shouldn’t be an odor. The green light when on is nice and bright and is supposed to beep when it’s caught something. Much better than suffering with a sticky trap.

Thank you Owltra company!! Have reset trap and will be leaving it in this area for a while just in case. So thankful. Great product that was easy to use and worked great.

Two rats in 2 days! I was frankly surprised this worked so well. No more rodent problems. No mess or blood. Peanut butter did the trick as suggested. I did have to take the top off as designed to get the dead rat out. Couldn’t just shake it out. I used dog poop bag to dispose of the rats. Much more discrete for my wife and kids not to see a body. Just a tail sticking out. Didn’t even have to add more bait.

  • H***n ★★★★★

I have always used the classic mousetraps in the past. I've always hated how the spring-loaded bar often crushes the mouse's head and squirts rodent bodily fluids everywhere. This mousetrap does electrocute the mouse, using four (4), Size C batteries. While I'm sure that isn't pleasant for the mouse, it does appear more humane than a crushed skull. To "empty" this trap, you simply shake it over the garbage can. The mouse falls out. Cleaning between uses is strongly recommended: 1/4 of the mice killed using this trap urinated and defecated upon death.

Unfortunately we have a current mice or rat issue in our garage thanks to all the road and new homes construction in our vicinity. The traditional mice traps got one mouse outside in the backyard but no luck in the garage. Well these did the trick. We bought 1 rat and 1 mouse trap since we weren’t sure which was the issue. They are built a little different. We found the mouse trap did not get any but the rat trap did. It killed a small rat and mouse. I really really hope we caught the issue early enough and this is the end of it. I definitely rec the rat one

Finally, something we don’t have to touch. -and know it happens quickly. Followed directions, set it out at night with the dab of peanut butter, and found the unwanted guests on the morning. Pop the top off and dispose. No poisons going into the ecosystem.

I bought these as they were much cheaper than one i had used previously. And I wanted 2 and could not justify that much money to catch a mouse. I caught nothing for 2 weeks…BUT thats not the products problem…BUT what I found annoying and questionable is how small the BAIT area is…its difficult to put s blob of peanut butter on a very narrow strip of metal from the back side. I would not expect to get many RATS caught with the size of this trap. I will keep them but wish I had paid the extra 20$ to catch bigger varmits.

So I've been using expensive Victor electric rat traps forever, and after about two years of use, the Victor no longer seems attractive to vermin. This one rat has been pruning my favorite conical pine and running off with beautiful sunflowers over the past month. I've had enough. If you are choosing between a rat and mouse version - to me the rat versions are the best because this OWLTRA OW-1 Indoor Electric Rat Trap will also catch mice. Our mice can be quite large - especially around the bird feeders. What attracted me to the OWLTRA OW-1 Indoor Electric Rat Trap was the lower cost and the multipack. I use these electric traps outdoors but usually place them under rocks, so the less costly indoor trap is what I ordered - when ordering more, I will go with the outdoor version as water did enter one of the traps during a very light rain last night. Update: constructed a little house for this rat trap to keep the rain and snow out - works great. This OWLTRA OW-1 Indoor Electric Rat Trap was placed outside (alongside my well used Victor) and the OWLTRA trap was the victor (pun). A very large rat was finally no more. I do find this to be way more effective and humane than the snap traps, as the snap traps often catch only a leg or 1/4 of the body and that's just cruel. The pack rats are so smart and adorable looking as they have big whiskers and tend to be very healthy looking with big eyes - so not seeing them is imperative for me.I use peanut butter with a bit of chocolate and, with this trap, there is a little area where you can easily place a tiny bit with a knife onto a tray area in the back of the trap - it really doesn't take much to attract the vermin so less is better. Added a video to show the victor and the Owltra rat trap little areas for food. The other benefit is this OWLTRA OW-1 Indoor Electric Rat Trap is it's really much easier to open and clean than the Victor that I have. I simply turned this trap upside down into the garbage and never had to touch or s.

I bought this after getting too frustrated with trying to set traditional snap traps without injuring myself, only to have the little devils manage to steal the bait and snap the trap while escaping unharmed. My brothe- in-law told me about these electronic ones that he’d had success with.I have managed to trap two rats, and with the first one, I was able to dump out the rodent into a paper bag without really even having to see it. (Win!) When I opened the trap to reset the bait, I did have to wipe out some fur and it was kind of gross, but manageable. However, with the second rat, it zapped it so hard that there was a blowout of fur all over the place outside of the trap, and it appeared to have blown off the tail. I was far too grossed out to be able to deal with it, and had to wait five or six days until a guy friend could come over and take care of it for me. By that point, the trap including the inside of the battery case had apparently been infested with maggots, so I’m out an almost $40 trap because it no longer works (although I get that it’s on me to have not disposed of it immediately).I don’t usually write reviews, but wanted to make people aware that although it is certainly an effective product, it definitely is NOT the non-messy item it claims to be, so if you’re squeamish like me and don’t have someone on hand to dispose of the rodent right away for you, you might want to figure out another option.

I got this trap 3 days ago and caught a rat each night. Really impressed with it so far! Easy to setup, easy to clean, definitely recommend this product.Obviously it depends on what you use to attract the rodents, but I’ve been rolling balls made of fig, peanut butter, and milk chocolate to lure them in. One of the original traps stopped working after a few months, for no apparent reason. I contacted the Owltra support and Amy was very helpful. It took one night for the dumb rat invader to die to this thing. We've had snap traps up for weeks with no results; We have 2 cats that were unable to catch him (and also the reason we couldn't risk a poison method); but once I finally got batteries for this thing it was instant! Seriously, I am actually singing the praises of a rat-trap, something I never would have expected myself to do.So 10/10 would recommend. Easy to set up. Discreet and black, we tucked ours behind our toilet so it was near an animal water source. The way it flashes when it catches something, you wont miss it. If any of my friends confide rodent problems in me, I will 100% point them in this direction. Fall is coming so I am gonna set the trap again and leave it just in case.

We have had a constant problem with rats running the wood fence between the houses in our suburban community. We noticed our outdoor patio couch had the cushions displaced and found rat droppings as well as chewed snail shells so they had been living the good life in our flower garden & patio. It’s so frustrating because we have used large wood snap traps in the past (they are so disgusting) but recently they were not working and neither were the bait throw packs. I honestly did not think this would work especially with depending on batteries but the box was so easy to set up and killed a very large rat the first night!! Bravo Owltra is the very best!

In spite of the manufacturer's recommendation not to use the trap outdoors, I did anyway as that is where my rat problem is and the evening forecast was for dry weather. I placed it under cover of a large bush to keep any dew off of the device. This morning I checked the rat trap and found that it had been taken apart, the peanut butter bait removed and completely cleaned (licked?) from the trap's bait area. So the trap is not raccoon-proof. What to do now? I could secure the two halves of the trap with zip ties, but then the raccoon would probably toss it on to my patio, jump up and down on it and destroy the trap trying to get to the bait. Something to think about.

This is the second one of these I have bought. I had an "indoor only" one, which worked great, and needed one for outdoors. Caught a mouse the first night. The beauty of these traps is, they will kill mice as well as rats. I had several different mechanical rat traps, but the mice would eat the bait without setting the trap off. I also will say this trap works 1000 times better than a well-known "name brand" trap that was twice the price !

I used an Owltra rat trap in my old apartment that was getting infested with mice AND rats (saw mouse AND rat droppings in the place), caught a mouse who had gotten his "capital punishment"-the trap did its job well. But strangely, in my new digs almost a year and a half later, I saw a mouse running in my kitchen, so I baited and armed the trap, then went out to do some errands. Upon returning and inspection, I saw the flashing green light (NOT green and red, so I assume the batteries were strong enough) but since it was late I went to sleep, the next morning I checked and still saw the intermittent green---opening the lid--NO MOUSE! Do not hesitate, this thing 100% works. I have been in a battle of wits with a rat that gnawed a hole in our house and has been generously helping himself to anything his little rat heart desires. I have set multiple traps with different enticing morsels, all of which he managed to get without throwing the darn trap. In desperation I prayed (should have done that first) and looked online for ideas. I ran across this and ordered immediately. First off it arrived 4 days earlier than expected which was a relief as we are having company this weekend. I set it last night and had a mouse this morning, pretty sure the rat shoved the mouse in to test it first. I moved it this afternoon to a dark, dreary corner of the attic and boom, 3 hours later I am doing a victory dance. I have reset it for all the rat relatives that may show up for the funeral.FYI, the rats in our area seem to be somewhat health conscious. Peanut butter apparently has too much sugar for their taste. I use a fresh crispy romaine lettuce leaf. Pretty certain a "honey crisp" apple would work also as I found a half-eaten apple prior to my recent victory.

Was doubtful when I spent over $30 for a rat trap that I wasn't sure would work. The trick is to place it where mice / rats are, this took a bit of time but after I found where mice were I've caught at least 10 mice. At this time I've not gotten a rat but there's a whole lot less mice. Peanut butter works great, yes baiting and cleaning is not the best but easy enough that it's not a big deal. I wash it out with a garden hose and use a butter knife or screwdriver to place the PB. Liked it so much that I'm buying a second one.

Much better option that the smaller one for "mice".I didn't realize how large a rat this trap can catch until this morning.Peanut butter works best.Make sure you have four "C" batteries.p.s. I actually bought two.

Bought the electronic rat trap. We have a storage area under our house and the last time I was down there I noticed droppings. Based on the size, I figured it was mice. Just to be safe though, I bought the "rat sized" trap. Put I little peanut butter in the bait tray, put in batteries, turned it on, and placed it in the corner. Checked the trap the next day and there was a large tail hanging out. Dumped the dead rat in the garbage can and rest the trap. Score is currently Home Owner:1 Rats:0.

I purchased this trap and upon receiving it didn't work correctly. Normally, I would have just returned it to Amazon but I in decided to reach out to the shop since they included their customer support info. We exchanged troubleshooting emails and once it was determined the device wasn't working, they sent me a new one. They stayed in contact with me the whole time, was courteous and professional. I will definitely purchase from them again.I actually have already purchased from them again already being so satisfied with their products and customer service.

This was so easy to assemble, install the batteries and bait, it feels very well made, I did my research countless days before finally deciding to purchase, I am extremely satisfied, I only had the trap set for less than 4 hours and I already caught one of the pesky rodents that I had targeted! I am confident I can get the bigger criminal and my main enemy! This is a must have, so buy with confidence!! It really works!!Update!!! Day 2 I got him! My main enemy has been ejected from the game of life, I am extremely satisfied with this Trap, let me give some additional information I was wondering and some of you may be wondering if this trap can possibly kill 2 mice or rats at the same time, I don't think that is possible, I say that because although it killed the large rat there was a small mouse who ran out when I picked it up, so it seems only one at a time, no worries though I will get him too, I will get them all!!! I've already rebaited. 😜 Come stay at my little owltra motel muhahahaha

It works and is easy to use. I caught the rat in a few days by using 3 whole almonds in the bait tray as bait. The trap is easy to use and works just as described. Far more humane than snap traps and glue traps, it's a quick kill and no mess trap. Light on top even lets you know when the trap has caught a rat. Easy to dispose without touching or seeing the rat too.

Did a little research and 'Big Sparky' dispatched ten rats in less than 24 hours. (I used 'Little Sparkys for mice and fixed my mouse problem a few years ago) Found a place I could easily put the trap and started leaving food around the area (Cheerio Oat Crunch). A few days later I put the trap down- apparently rats are a suspicious lot so I just left it there for a few more days. Then I put down more food and some of the Cheerios in the trap. Found that the rats were going into the trap to eat the bait, so I threw the switch. I didn't even have to open the trap to get out the rat, I opened a dog poop bag and shook the rat right into it. Works great for me, but not so much for rats and mice.

These worked far better than expected. If the rodent goes in - ZAP - it’s dead!It isn’t easy to get them in there - they are very smart and learn where NOT to go - so the traps need to be moved often. But if you’re smarter than the rodent- they work great!

Had a neighborhood rat that kept visiting for the last 6 months that exterminators couldn’t get rid of. Took only 2 weeks with this trap.Update 1: caught a 2nd rat. 2 for 2.update 2: caught a 3rd rat. 3 for 3.I did have to buy new traps as the dead rats pretty much fused to the traps.Update 3: trap is 4 for 4. I wish it was a little cheaper since I replace them for each catch but it has been flawless. I did reuse the batteries at least.

This product is amazing. Works very well on both rats and mice. We live in a rural area that natural habitat is disappearing so with feed for our outdoor animals they started to invade our space. In just 1 day we got 17 with just 2 of the traps. I ordered more and now they stay on the ready for the little beasts. I highly recommend to any one who has asked me what I have used . This is safe for human and pets unless you have a rodent pet . No pesticides. Easy clean up . Little green light blinks when trap has one in it. A few times we had nothing in the trap later found the cat had pulled it out.. I guess you can say it's better than a cat .

I heard something scratching under the cabinet in my kitchen but saw no evidence of anything getting in so I had no idea if it was a mouse, rat, chipmunk, squirrel, mole, etc. so I bought the bigger one just in case. I wanted to put it inside bc all I have is a crawl space underneath my house and it's too much of a pain to get under there and I want to be sure I'm catching whatever is making all this noise and not just every animal that runs by under there bc we have a ton of chipmunks running thru my yard, deck etc. Because I couldn't see any evidence or where it/they were getting in, I couldn't put it "near evidence" and I couldn't put it along a wall bc my walls in that area are not accessible with the stove, fridge, cabinets etc. in the way so I put it along the bottom of the cabinet with it's opening facing the opening between the cabinet and the stove blocking its entrance to the open floor should it come from between there. It was super easy to follow directions and set up ... I handled it with gloves only to not get human scent on it, put a dab of peanut butter in the bait section, inserted new batteries, put the magnetic top of and flipped the power switch to ON. The green light flashed to show it was on and the light goes back off until something is caught. I waited several days... Maybe 4-5 days passed and I was so excited when I heard something scratch metal like it had been near my stove! I got up super early like 5am and the green light was flashing!!!! Score!!! I won't attach pics bc I couldn't look at it. I specifically bought this kind so that I could just dump it without having to look at it. I dumped it in a garbage bag, sealed it right and tossed it. It was TINY so now I'm worried it's a baby mouse and there's a mama.... Great. It was easy to clean - no mess except tiny drops of what looked like saliva - clear liquid. I cleaned it with damp paper towel and gloves, reset it and put it in same place.Sure enough I kept hearing the same noise. Almos.

We have rat(s) in our garage and attic, and I have tried humane cage traps, little physical clamp traps, and sticky sheet traps (all well-reviewed on Amazon.) The only one that had ever came close to working was the sticky sheet, but our rats are big enough to escape from it (I found the sheet later and it was torn up with no rat.)I bought a two pack of the rat trap size Owltra OW-1 Friday, set them up Saturday (peanut butter bait), and Sunday morning had two dead rats! One actually was lying just outside, the bait was gone so it probably set off the trap when it was trying to get out. These traps are easy to set up, and directions are pretty clear. You'll need 4 C batteries per trap. There's no remote notification (they probably went off at night when we were asleep so not sure what sound they make), so you'll need to check the trap in person (the indicator light will flash when it is set off, more likely you'll see a tail sticking out the end if it went off.) I would have preferred a humane trap but they didn't work for me, this is probably the quickest and most humane end for the rodents. I don't know how many rats we have in the house, but it's a no brainer to leave these there and just check every couple of days.

These traps work like a champ. Keeps you busy emptying them. We use dog food, the crunchy kind of course, for the bait and they did their job well. Very easy to set, clean, etc. I think it's a very good product and actually does the job it's supposed to do. That's hard to find today. Anything that does what it's supposed to for what you pay.

I am pretty queasy about killing rats, for all the reasons. I didn’t even see the rat, it worked in 15m ! I could see the tail only , just placed a large bag over it and after lifting it I just titled it so that it would drop inside. Also, I appreciate it is less cruel, painful and bloody than other methods. And it worked immediately. Very please.

The product is a good item to stop rats and mice. Could be built sturdier, buy works as advertised. Put the bait in the bait area, put in 4 C Type batteries (Available on Amazon), arm it and wait. It stops rats even bigger than its own length. Expensive, but peace of mind. Will be buying another soon. Stop rats dead in their tracks. A little clean up of the lower part of the trap is required, but it's simple enough. Wipe with wet cloth, then wipe the kill zone with vinegar to get rid of any odour, then repeat. The only negative would be that it's hard to know when a rodent has been caught without checking frequently. The green LED blinks every 10 seconds after a catch, but the places it is put in, you wouldn't know easily. Apart from that, a commendable product.

  • S***y ★★★★☆

I would have given this 5 stars but the indoor traps don't beep to let you know there's something in there.Apparently, it keeps zapping the dead mouse until the batteries go dead.2 dead mice.8 dead C batteries.

Everything about the process was super simple. The only "hiccup" I had was that you must be very careful not to get any bait on the metal. I installed the batteries, baited it with Jif peanut butter (with a qtip), then left the house to go to work. I got home from work at 6am and the green light on top was blinking and I had a little critter just barely inside the trap. Cleanup was super easy. I reset the trap as the bait was never touched, and we'll see if that critter had any friends when I get home from work again tomorrow. I also had 2 snap traps that were never touched. I've used the snap traps before at work and I would prefer this electric one over a snap trap any day. No mess, ez cleanup.

I purchased this rat trap after having this rat terrorize me for a month in my apartment. Landlords sent out pest control and wild life specialists, only to leave me with sticky traps that did not work and it would repeatedly eat through each one. Ordered these and in less than 24 hours the rat was caught and killed. Easy to set up and you need 4 C type batteries. I used peanut butter as my bait and it worked well. As someone who is highly squeamish around these critters this works great! Safe for my dog and cat that are also in my home.

This product works as advertised. I did not know the size of the monster rats that were creeping on my patio. Before the OWLTRA outdoor trap there were rats droppings on my patio around the HVAC exhaust pipe. Now its radio silence on my patio. I think rats are scared now to come in my patio, lol . I also bought the mouse trap for indoor with limited success.

We had obvious signs of a rat near the chicken house. I didn't want to put out poisons or snap traps because of the pups and chickens. I have never had very good luck with the snap traps anyway. This was super easy to set up. It is easy to place bait and there is nothing to set up. I set it out late in the afternoon and when I went out to feed the chickens the next morning, I had my rat! Just pick it up and dump in the trash. NO touching! Since it decapacitates him immediately, I still had my bait to set the trap back out! I immediately ordered mouse versions for our vacation vehicle!

I bought the Owltra to place in locations where I knew I had some rat activity. The directions for set up are clear and illustrated (the picture could have been a bit larger). It uses C batteries. I don't know why I thought it was D. The directions suggest peanut butter, which is a logical choice of bait. It took about 2 weeks for the rat to enter the trap. Removing the rat was simple and sanitary. My small suggestion would be to have some way to know the batteries are still active. You can turn it on and off to do that, but I don't really want to fiddle with it once I have set it. A PS was I was not sure it would work, but the price was reasonable so I got it. Once I saw the green light flashing with the dead rat inside I knew I made a good choice.

We spent about 90 dollars on rat poison prior to purchasing this electric rat killer with no results. I received this trap this morning. I set it about 11 am it's now 11 pm and I have emptied it 5 times. Setup is simple and easy with no messy clean up. IT WORKS. UPDATE it's now our second day so far 10 unwanted critters eliminated. I down graded to four star because of the crappie bait door. I don't mess with it. I just fill the little plastic tray inside the kill chamber with dry dog food.

ETA: as mentioned below, the trap kept giving me false positives. I tried replacing the batteries with no luck. I ended up storing it with no batteries for a while, and apparently this was enough to reset whatever the problem was. If the bait trough was a little wider, I’d give it five stars. This worked great, but just once. Since the first success, every time I've set it, in the morning I see the flashing green light, yet there's nothing inside. I haven't figured out what the problem is.If this worked more than once, I'd give it 4 stars. What keeps it from getting a five is that the bait tray is too small and hard to access. I don't know -- could it have stopped working because some peanut butter made contact with the metal when I was removing the first rat?

  • G***r ★★★★☆

Ordered two of these on a Saturday, they arrived on Sunday afternoon and by Monday morning they had successfully caught two mice.Only 4 stars because I had to replace the batteries for one of the traps after only one night even though they say that one set of batteries will trap 60 mice.

I purchased two of these traps due to an onslaught of mice finding there way into our home. Yes, our home and not theirs. They do not know what hits them and have had great success. Simple to bait and empty with not having to touch the critter. Batteries last a long time too. The extra nice thing is when one has been eliminated, a green light flashes every 10 seconds. These traps also have a red light indicator for when batteries need replaced. One other plus is they do not miss, so the mouse can’t escape and go communicate to the rest of the mice. These are an A+++ product!!!

  • H***L ★★★★★

The lid houses the batteries and a capacitor. On closing the lid, the 2 adjacent metal plates on the floor of the trap makes contact with the capacitor. Put bait (I used a dab of peanut butter) on the bait tray, turn it on. When the 2 plates are bridged, the capacitor discharges. This trap is more humane than traditional spring traps. I caught (instant kill) a pair of wood rats that refused all my methods of dissuasion from my attic (wish I knew how they got in b/c I thought I had sealed all openings.) I really recommend this trap: simple, effective, but don't use in damp location b/c of the electronics.

  • S***k ★★★★★

I was using an exterminator for my mouse and rat issues in the desert. That was inconvenient for both me and him to return and empty the traps as needed. This trap is so effective and easy. Just dump the critter out and set it back in place. No gross mess to see or touch. Easy peasy.

Listen I never wrote reviews, a lot of people say this thing is trash and doesn't work though and I absolutely couldn't disagree more. 13 in one day on a farm surrounded propertyI cleaned the trap with isopropyl alcohol to get any smell off, baited the back with honey and dog food since that's what the rats eat on the property, tracked them to their den and found the trails they travel, and just left it.It's hilariously loud and kind of horrific to watch the action happen but dear Lord does it work. It's basically a Taser in a box, I did learn on one mouse even if it looks dead to not turn the box off until the zapping stops. Only one rat walked away from it but I'm 99% sure he didn't make it long.It does produce a weird burning smell, definitely makes them smoke, wouldn't recommend kids or near small trash/cloth areas. You do have to rebait and move every now and then as they crawl over their brethren to get the food and also learn to not go that direction since there's a dead buddy so

Let’s be honest, no one wants to be in a position where they need this product. However, should you find yourself in need of a similar one, you can save yourself the research I did and just get this one. We were out of town over the holidays and our neighbor brought in our mail and found a critter had come inside. We ordered these, some batteries to go along with it, and my neighbor kindly slapped some peanut butter inside, installed the batteries , and set two of these up in our home. Upon arriving less than 30 hours later, the culprit was no longer at large! What success! It made disposal easy (not as traumatizing) and we were able to focus on cleaning up our home and preventing future critters from getting in, knowing this one had been eliminated. Do yourself a favor and get these if you’re looking at products in this area.

I never bother to write reviews but—these work. Yes they’re expensive and yes, it may take a few days-weeks for the rats to be willing to venture inside, but they work exactly as advertised. Very clean and quick to dump the carcass into the trash. Do yourself a favor and buy some tomcat bait gel, it seems to work even better than peanut butter and it’s a lot less messy.I have a massive tree rat issue (lots of habitat and fruit trees), and I placed one of these on each of my patios (covered, they’re not rain proof) and every day or two for the past couple of weeks I have another rat in them.Follow the directions exactly, place them where they won’t be exposed to weather and where you see evidence of rat traffic, give them a few days for the rats to become acclimated…and then just replace the batteries as needed!

First, I love Owltra traps. I have the mouse traps and the rat traps and they work very good. I have just bought the outdoor rodent traps. They came in yesterday. I charged my batteries and got everything ready for tonight. I placed the batteries in the first trap and baited it and put it where I wanted it and turned it on. Well, it did not come on. I went back to the house and got the other trap and put bait and batteries in the trap and walla it worked fine. I put the one that is working in place and checked out the one not working. I cannot find anything wrong with it. I tried to get something from the amazon website and I am not quite happy with the way that went. I do not want to return it. I live in a very rural area and have to drive 3 towns over to get to a ups or fedex pickup point. I tried to chat online about it and not good luck with that. I guess I will just have to eat it.Next DayI went back into the electronics again. I did not see anything wrong. I put batteries in the device with the top off. I pushed the relay down that is suppose be pressed by the slide switch on the top of the trap. The green light came on. I glued a rubber spacer to the contact area of the slide on- off switch and it is now working. It now set up and working. The other one that was working from the start has already killed a small rat.

Excellent piece of equipment. My unwanted basement rat had become very skeptical of anything new (because I kept trying to kill it with mousetraps before I knew it was a rat chewing up my dog food bags, and glue boards, which it escaped 2 at the same time). First step is to block off any access it has to being an indoor/outdoor rat so you make it desperate for food. Then remove access to it's accustomed food source. In my case that meant sealing my dog food in totes and coolers. Then put a piece of dog food in the trap but also one near the traps entrance. As the food gets eaten, replace it closer and closer to the traps entrance. Sooner or later it will go for the piece in the back of the trap and ZAP! Electric chair. So easy to turn off, open and dump the rat out. I wore nitrile gloves to do it but realized I wouldn't need to next time because it's so separated from anything I would touch.Apparently this method is also more humane to the rat than say, rat poison or antifreeze poisoning. Just because I don't want a rat doing damage in my basement doesn't mean I want it to suffer more than necessary on its way out either. This method was well worth its money. More passive methods did not work for my basement rat but oh lordy this one worked.

The bait area makes a mess, the proof of my review is that the rat totally bypassed the unit completely. I used peanut butter in the bait area on paper at first, as I had read in a review that it was less messy. There was no activity, so I used just the peanut butter, still no activity. It just did not appeal to the rat at all I guess. UPDATE CORRECTION!!!!WITH NO BAIT WE GOT ONE! I'VE HAD THIS TRAP ON AND JUST SITTING FOR WEEKS WITHOUT BAIT BECAUSE I FIGURED IT DIDN'T WORK, WELL IT DOES. I GUESS JUST ENOUGH SCENT OF PEANUT BUTTER GOT HIM IN THERE AND HE IS DEFINITELY DEAD. I WILL BE STTING IT UP AGAIN, HOPEFULLY FOR THE NEXT ONE!

I'm giving this 3 stars only because it does as stated with respect to dispatch. However, it is not instant or humane. I've tried other methods but there are ways to get into my attic they find so catch and release hasn't worked.I did just listen to a mouse scream for 2 minutes while hearing the charge discharge cycles of the electricity, and yeah that did it, but likely due to torturing it until its heart failed. This is on par with drowning them I guess. If it can scream repeatedly, the current on this product is not high enough.I think I'll proceed with large snap traps because at least that is likely to end things quickly.I'm putting this here not to guilt anyone but just be informed if the humane portion of this is what you're after, maybe this doesn't fit that bill. It works, but... IDK gimme a model with more batteries to up the current and I'll be back. I don't mind buying batteries to reduce that.

If anyone has caught a rat by a conventional spring trap, consider yourself lucky because my "visitors" snuck past them. For a few less bucks than its competitors, this electric trap is heavy weighted and sturdy.A few tips: Use rubber gloves- rats can smell human touch. Place it along a wall in an undisclosed area. Evidence of rodent droppings is a good spot. Rats are used to narrow crawl spaces so the oblong design will lure them in. There is a slot for peanut butter, but throwing in a few kernals of dog food in and outside the trap did the trick. Also be patient. Rats are suspect of new things but the bait will ultimately lure them in to death by volts. Poor rats, happy customer!

Pros: catching lots of small rodents but not bigger ones like was advertised (rats). easy to bait up and clean. I did like it so much I bought two more of the little mouse ones.Cons: had to write with marker, on the switch, which was on and off as it was a little confusing, no bigger animals caught, just little ones, rodents get in and eat the bait without getting shocked sometimes. Not weather proof.

I’ve already disposed of several mice. It’s very easy to set up, use and clean. I also like that it’s reusable. I purchased a second one. However, requires batteries. I’d give it five stars if it had an option to use an electric cord or batteries like one I owned previously. I recommend it.

Killed about 15-20 mice/rats in chicken coop, but died after 4 months. Don't know why. Dry conditions. Died while killing a rat. Dumped rat and wouldn't reset after. Took it apart to see if it was just something simple that was wrong, but circuit board was fried. See picture. I ordered another because it worked well when it worked to see if it was just a lemon. Will update review based on that. If it dies again that soon, I'll try another brand.

I was over run with mice, and I think I saw a couple rats as well. I couldn't be sure, because I read that rats and mice don't mix. But, I do think that a couple of rats got in there. This caused me to order the rat sized trap, because, what if Mama Rat showed up? It was like a horror show.In the past, I have tried snap traps. These will get you one or two, until the rest learn how to steal bait without getting caught. This time, I didn't start with snaps. I just jumped to glue traps. Glue traps work for the most part, if you buy ones with the strongest glue. But if any part of the mouse can catch a solid edge, then they can pull out of it. In addition to this draw back, they don't die right away, but linger for a couple of days. You have to bash them inside of a bag to avoid this grisly detail. And that is just as bad as having them sitting there suffering for days.I moved on to electric mouse traps. Yes, this is a successful solution. The trap I bought is only meant for indoors. I was very careful with it, not wanting to get zapped myself. The directions are well written and easy to understand, except it is not clear which way to push the slide button to turn it on. Slide the toggle toward the back door to turn it off, and towards the opening to turn it on. The green light signaling it is on only flashes once for about 5 seconds. If you don't see it, just repeat the steps. Turn it off, then back on.The back door is vented. I once saw a mouse attempt to open this door, but he couldn't. Don't waste your time thinking that you add the bait here. I think that's what it's for, because the bait tray is right there. But, I didn't use peanut butter, and my bait wouldn't fit through the opening. It was much easier to add bait through the top. I do not think human scent ever deterred those guys from going for the bait.Let's say you're all set up. This trap takes 4 C batteries. 1. You turn off the trap. 2. You take the battery door off. 3. You take out one or two of the bat.

I am using this product under cover outdoors - in an outdoor kitchen setting. It is easy to load bait (I am using dog kibble) and very easy to remove dead rodents. I have caught something at least once per week all summer on one set of batteries. This does require 4 size C batteries, but it is completely worth it. The blinking light to indicate a catch is very useful.

Works great problem gone. I leave them up and running to make sure no more come. I live out in the country and they were tearing up under my house. So glad they are gone. Worth a try make sure and bait with dog food. It works like a charms. Appears that was the reason they were coming around. Make sure and lock up the dog,cat and pretty much all food outside in a metal container or it will not bother with the trap. Could take a few weeks for the last ones to come but leave them up after just to never have this problem again!

These units work. Has effectively taken two grown rats with these. However, very tiny field mice can run in and out several times without it triggering shock. So it works on large rodents as expected. Just don’t be surprised if the little tiny guys don’t always get zapped, use other appropriate sized stuff for tiny rodents. Durable build quality easy setup. Easy setup and trigger monitoring. Great value for the money.

I used this product off and on for about 2 years. It failed. It only displayed a green flashing light. Calling the number on their web site was useless. There is no tech support, just a voice mail option. I wrote in to the support number. No response. I even tried calling the sales number, just voice mail. A real company would have actual people to help you. It worked when it worked and just became trash when it failed.

Ok, after a month of use I can finally review. It does work, and quite well… depending on the adversary. Rats are smart. After the first five or six I had to keep moving and disguising it and switching up bait for it to work.As for bait, the three most effective have been a small amount of peanut butter, a small piece of bimbo bread rolled into a small pellet, and a piece of the inside from a peanut butter filled pretzel nugget (that one worked extremely well). The batteries did need changing after about the tenth big rat, but that was also 45 days.

I bought these in the hopes of catching a roof rat that got in my house and enjoyed playing dog and mouse with my dogs. I had one trap with peanut butter and another with hamburger meat. After 5 days watching the traps on a camera, the rat when everywhere around the trap except inside the trap, even hung out and sat on top of the trap. I had brand new batteries in both and they worked, but the rat was smart enough to not go inside the trap. I then bought the sticky glue trap and the rat was stuck like glue within 20 minutes of putting the glue trap out.

We have a Victor version of this in 'mouse size' that worked really well for us (the first kill was practically right after we left the room). The price however is a bit much for the Victor 'rat size' version. We found this Owltra rat trap at a lesser price for the same concept. It was easy to assemble and 'set' for use. I used peanut butter to bait the trap which always worked well with the mice that occasionally find their way into our crawlspace. It did not come with batteries, but we had some on hand fortunately. The first night we saw the rat's footprints (we only had one thankfully) all around the device, but no kill. The second night I switched baits to raw bacon since I noticed it had been trying to get into our bacon grease jar. Again, footprints all around but no kill. I was getting skeptical about the trap design. Then I read up on catching rats vs mice -- it was suggested that rats can be more difficult and wary of new objects. They need time to get comfortable (maybe a few nights) and also more bait scents around it and leading to it. So, I left the trap unmoved but rubbed a raw bacon piece front the trap all around the counter it frequented and to its entry point behind our stove. Next morning -- dead.Easily disposed of it by popping the lid and dumping it into the wooded yard in case a scavenger wanted it.Very pleased with this design as I cannot stand the idea of poisoning or maiming animals, but also cannot have rodents in our home. Perfect solution.

I've had this trap set up for more than a year and nothing, despite hearing activity in the walls. Occasionally I'll flip it off & on to check the batteries, always good to go, just waiting on a customer lol.Well suddenly this Sunday the green light was flashing! I wasn't sure if it meant "low battery" or "clean up on rat aisle" so I googled it, turned out it was option #2, clean up time. Then Monday night/Tuesday morn it was flashing again, BINGO, got another customer/victim. It's Wednesday morning and guess what? Ding ding ding! It's flashing again, I'm so glad it works but so disturbed at the same time*sigh*It seems to be a pretty silent process, no squeaks, only a slight buzzing that seemed to go on for a minute or two at least, no burnt fur smell. We just dump it out, I haven't cleaned it out and maybe it's better I don't if it's helping attract them but what I will do is stock up on more of the long lasting batteries so I'm never caught off guard!

Hired a very expensive exterminator company to help... $600 later they killed one rat and left the basic traps if I wanted to keep using them. Then a week ago I found traces of another rat. This time I got on Amazon and started purchasing my own rat arsenal. I've had the trap a week and just killed my first rat. My neighbors have fruit trees so I think its a forever problem. Used a section of drain pipe at entrance to make more inviting and use gloves for setup so it won't smell like humans.Unlike letting them drown for minutes in a bucket trap or poison and letting them run off and die who knows where this is Very humane shock was instant kill.

You have to get them used to it with putting some food front and around. Also make sure bait inside actually in bait compartment, if not, it will trip the infrared light and won’t work. Rodents that have been ignoring conventional traps and baits were trapped by this product. The only negative is the instructions aren't accurate. It doesn't flash once every 10 seconds when set off. I'll check them manually.

Have had rat problems off and on for a couple of years. Regular traps were a pain so I decided to try these. Within two hours of putting the traps out (baited with cooked bacon) two rats had been dispatched. Dumped them in the trash, re-baited and had a third the next day. So easy. A little pricey but got results.

These things are the "cat's meow" you might say. A family of rats have somehow invaded the space between our first and second floor. Could hear them moving at night above the first floor ceiling. Placed a trap in one upstairs bathrom which coincidentally has an opening to tha space we made trying to find a plumbing leak. We have now caught a small or medium rat every night for the last week! (That's seven nights in a row.) We keep the door to the room closed so our dogs can't happen in to take a look. I visit every morning with a gallon size ziplock bag and some peanut butter to re-bait the trap. All I need to do is tip the trap and the dead rat goes into the open bag without touching a thing. Have purchased 3 more traps to use at our business which has a rodent problem occasionally. Do you think that the Guinness World Records include an entry for the most days in a row catching a rat? Incidentally we have yet to see one of these anywhere in our living areas. Update: our total is now 11 and counting. I awoke one evening to the unpleasant sound of a rat attempting to steal dog biscuits off our dresser. Not a pleasant thought. Purchased 2 more and it took about a week to get our friend.

I wasn't getting any action with this. But I switched to sunflower seeds instead of peanut butter and left a light trail leading into it. Had some luck with sticky pads and snap traps then kinda went stalemate and brought this back out with the seeds. I had 1 rat that seemed bigger and a lot smarter then the rest. Also lasted the longest. This did need to get fresh batteries after the kill but I was so frustrated I didn't care.

I've been using this for over a year and it definitely works and is not messy. When a rodent is killed it very easily empties into a garbage can. I've caught about 6 rats so far and it hasn't been turned on everyday, I try to switch it up. My only critique is the light on the top that blinks isn't very clear and sometimes I don't know if a rodent is trapped or not unless I pick it up and physically look inside. If the lighting could be clearer to be able to glance from 5+ feet away and instantly be able to tell, that would bump me up to 5 stars.

We didn't have an infestation or anything, but we did have 1 known pain in the butt that we would hear in the walls at night. It was a large rodent in the garage. We tried the glue boards but it was so large that it would move it, but wouldn't stick. So I purchased the 2pk of the rat traps. We knew it liked cookies because he was bold enough to steal the cookies we had left in some luggage while we were inside unloading the rest of the stuff. So I left 3 small pieces of cereal. Next morning he was caught. Setting up again. Just in case.

I have three of the rat traps up in my attic and have killed 6 rats so far. These are super easy to use. I also love that all I have to do to empty the trap is pick up the trap and turn it so the rat slides right into the waste basket. I don't have to open a trap like the "traditional" mouse traps that you set. Unlike some reviewers here, I have absolutely no compunction about killing rats that are in my house. If you are a rodent and running around outside, great. More power to ya! But if you are in my house. Nope. That's a line too far. Of course, I'm not into torturing animals, so I wouldn't be in favor of something that creates a slow, agonizing death, but this is just a big zap that probably hurts for only a second, if that. I highly recommend it. In fact, after finishing this review, I'm going to be posting the link to this product on Twitter and Facebook. I can't say enough positive things about it. I only wish I'd bought more than one to begin with instead of one and then ordering the two pack a week or two later. That is something I would recommend to people. Buy the two pack to start with. If there's one rat, there's probably two.

I have been at war with rats for two years now, I’ve tried snap traps, fancy, snap traps, two different kinds of wire cage traps, and this was the first electric Zaper trap I’ve bought. The rats do go for the snap traps, but it seems like half the time it doesn’t kill them, and they end up suffering (I hate rats, more than I can tell you, but I don’t want them to suffer)..For some reason, they are too smart for the cage traps. I’ve tried enticing them with little pieces of fruit leading to the trap, and they will eat the ones leading to the trap and then stop.. there are probably 10 times more rats in the house, all laughing at the “one” stupid rat that goes into the cage trap.I was skeptical I would catch a rat in the electric, Zaper, because the opening is about the size of the rat. But when I first put it out, I was catching 1–2 rats per day.. after about a week no more rats.About a week later, I saw a rat activity (things moved, the paper towels covering my cutting board were half off).. But the green light was flashing, so I got that sucker.. maybe this rat chose to violate my kitchen countertops before checking out the rat zapper..A month later I saw the green light flashing again. (got another rat). I’m surprised the peanut butter still had any fragrance after all that time..I’m gonna buy some more batteries and put the put another one out.Clean up could be better, I wish something would slide out where I could have access to clean out the old peanut butter input in Fresh peanut butter.. but at least there is open access from the top. I bought some things that look like large popsicle sticks from the paint department, that I use to reset the peanut butter..

We have found the existence of some mice in our home recently. I was thinking of trapping them alive and then release them to the nature far away my home, but after doing some researches, I put it down. If they are not released at their familiar habitat, it is most likely that they cannot find water, food, shelter,... They also do not have experience in escaping from the predators. In short, they will die slowly and painfully. So, I decided to buy this product. It did catch some mice every few days. The only thing I worried was that it may keep electrically shocking the mice/rats for minutes rather than kill them instantly, but I was wrong. Today I sat just a few feet from the trap and heard a buzz from it. Then, I came to the trap immediately within about 3 seconds and saw a mouse in it. There were some electric spark at the mouse's tail where it touched to the trap floor, so I turn off the power to stop hurting the creature, but I realized it was totally dead at that time. I think this is the best way to get rid of the mice/rat in our home.

  • R***T ★★★★★

I bought two of these a few months ago. I was using snap traps, but the rats mostly avoided them. They don’t avoid these electric traps. I have caught 92 rats in the last 3 months. Used good batteries and haven’t changed they yet. At least 45 rats per battery change. They will climb over the body of their fallen brethren to eat the bait. If I find a hot spot, one trap can catch several in just one day if I stay on top of it. Eventually they do need to be cleaned. You know that when you turn it on and both the red and green light blinks. Take the top off and clean the floor of it with dish soap and hot water. Let it dry, and your back in business. Now that it’s getting cold and rainy, more rats are moving into my buildings. So I just ordered two more traps. Highly recommend.

If you're on the fence whether or not to buy this, buy it now! I can't remember the last time I was so pleased with a purchase I made from Amazon. It's so easy. I put in the batteries, added a pea sized amount of peanut butter using a qtip, armed it and when I came home from work the green light was flashing! I turned it off and picked it up then dumped the rat into a trash bag. All I saw was it's tail. There was no mess inside and no odor at all. I added a bit more peanut butter, armed it again and in the morning the green light was flashing! I kept doing this until after the fifth one there hasn't been any more. Here I was thinking I had only two rats in my house. It's been over two months and I still have it armed and I havent had to replace the batteries yet.I don't use the word amazing very often, but this thing is amazing... Especially when you consider the alternative.

Took a few days to get one, but I believe it had to do with removing any/all food sources. Have caught two in the last 48 hours. I just carry the whole thing out to the trash and dump the rat out. Still grosses me completely out but am glad I don’t have to see/touch it. Noticed the first one tried it’s hardest to get to the bait from the back, so thankful it couldn’t. Wasn’t home for the first capture, but was home for the second and didn’t even hear it (trap is in the kitchen by an entry point). Definitely the best trap I have found for being a woman living on her own.

Synopsis: Super intelligent, large roof rat, ate from my kitchen, avoided capture for weeks. First use of this electric trap, rat was dead. Read more for details--BAITING: I did not put bait in the bait door---too small and would have been impossible to clean. Instead, I used a small disposable plastic cup (like the kind they use to give food samples at the big box wholesale warehouse). I used Trapper's Choice loganberry lure from bugspray [dot] com- (I am not being compensated in any way for endorsing that product--it just works better than anything I've ever used), a sprinkling of assorted bird seed, and a little of the stuff the rat was already eating from my pantry (it's important to use food they already have a taste for in the bait).CONFIDENCE BUILDING: I placed the trap on a piece of corrugated cardboard that prortruded a few inches beyond each side of the trap. I baited the trap 3 nights in a row (without batteries) to build the rat's confidence, first outside the mouth of the trap, then progressively moving the bait further inside the trap. I woke each morning to find the bait cup empty.ARMING THE TRAP: On the 4th night, I baited the trap again and powered it on, moving the bait cup all the way to the back of the trap. By the next morning, the rat had rung up the curtain and joined the choir invisible (DRT).CLEANUP: Since I checked the trap within a few hours of setting it, blood had not pooled to the bottom of the carcass (lividity). I'm pretty sure fleas abandon dead rodents quickly, but I still wore long household gloves when handling the trap. I did not have to touch anything but the trap to dispose of the rat in my outdoor rollaway trash can. When not in use, I pulled the batteries so it wouldn't draw power or corrode in the bay. The trap may look small at first glance but it easily accommodated my problem rat.CONCLUSION: It's worth the money if you have exhausted other means.

Do you know how rats are very intelligent and are said to be neophobes? It REALLY is true. I received this device on December 2nd, immediately set it up and placed it in the area where traditional snap-traps had a decent success rate--until they didn't. We baited it with an almond nestled in a blob of peanut butter. Jiff, I think.Nothing for seventeen days. I was starting to regret spending $31.00 on the unit, as well as whatever a 24 pack of C batteries cost. I think it was in the neighborhood of $18.00 for those. Quite an investment for someone not particularly wealthy. On the seventeenth day, it all changed. FOUR in under 48 hours! I am loath to take joy in killing any animal, but, the destruction to property cannot be ignored and it is also a hazard when you have electrical wires and such. They have to go. They are going with this device. It is so much more humane and sanitary than many other options. I do absolutely recommend this product and I can also tell you that it does work on sizeable Norway Rats.

Easy to assemble. Set this up after my house had been terrorized by a rat. It got in closed high level cabinets and ate up the sink drain. Within 10 hours of baiting I had this big guy. Hopefully that’s all there was but if not I know the trap is able to handle it.

There is no good rat problem but we do not have an infestation. So our rodents have been very resistant to traps and poison. We see very little evidence but from time to time you'll find something. I bought two of these and set them up today. Rats are smart so you want to use a different kind of bait than you have used in the past that they might be avoiding. I gave these today some Cheese and crackers. Within two hours I had a green light flashing and a motionless customer. It worked well. easy to dump and set back up again.

I've tried EVERYTHING, poisons aka rat aphrodisiac, snap traps..toys for the rodents, live traps(I swear I could hear the rats laughing),spray repellents..the rats new perfume, and even a different electric trap (the rechargeable type).I'm not sure it really works.I ask my husband to touch it just to see if it would shock him..I'm gonna have to resort to bribery for that to happen. Oh, and those sonic noise things you plug in and it's supposed to "disturb" the rodents by sending out a high frequency.. NOPE. I placed right in front of a rat hole and they were not bothered! It gave me a headache though. I was getting to the point of wishing the snakes were back. (Rat snake infestation 3 years ago)But Finally I am seeing results. This trap has caught 4 rats in the last 24 hours! That's 8 so far in the 3 days I've had it set. (I've used a bit of cheese bread from "pizza night" for bait.)It's been raining and getting colder so our rat infestation has increased quite a bit over the past week. So I'll be ordering more of these traps. Thank you Owltra!

When I first got this, I knew I had a critter in the house. I started with a no-kill trap, but I could tell my problem was getting worse and I had only caught one little guy in about 3 weeks. I set up the OWLTRA and still did not catch anything, even moved it to the basement and nothing. I had almost given up when someone had said they used Sunflower seeds and put a little trail to the trap. I did that and threw a couple seeds in the trap for good measure. I'm now on Rat number 4, in 4 days. I seriously thought I only had one or maybe two that were running around, so I'm a little freaked that I've got 4 and one was very large, I can see a big difference in the droppings. I'm a big animal lover and everything I read says it kills these guys instantly with no pain and suffering. Easy to dispose of the rat and reset.

This is a great buy to catch mice in your house or apartment. Whenever we put the peanut butter bait and turn it on, there's always a mice in there the next day. The dead mice doesn't smell at all. The only issue I have with it now is the battery. You use 4pcs of size C batteries which can be expensive if you will use this often. Quick fix for this is to turn it off during day or when not in use. Now I hope they will come in with plug in power source, then I will give it 5 stars. But in general, this product is way pricey than the traditional mouse trap but it does its purpose.

After setting up the traps and still using the old school traps. We ended up catching more with the old school traps.I love the idea and we got the bigger one just in case we had something bigger than a mouse. We have pets and grandkids so it’s important to me for a safer trap. Will just have to be careful when setting up the older ones. The set up is really easy.Loved the way you have to turn off before you can remove the top.Again I loved it but with what we needed it just didn’t catch enough vs the old.

I bought this with some Energizer batteries and found that it was able to kill a rat instantly in 35 degree weather in a covered parking area. Since you can choose your own bait in this trap, it gives you a chance to switch it up and change it periodically. This has an advantage over rodenticides as rats learn to get leery of certain baits. The flashing green light also lets you know that its been triggered so there are no surprises when you pick it up. It would be nice if it was a little larger and heavier and note that it takes some cleaning and sanitization after a kill.

Fist of all, there is no odor. When we tried rat poison my home stunk and my son had to go into the walls to find the dead rats. We have had the two pack of this Rat Trap that electrocutes the rats which is much better. So far, in just a few days we have gotten 11 rats and I am sure we will have more. We live in an apartment with neighbors next door that do not care if rats are in their house but we do. Using this product is more efficient because we don't have to go looking for the rats and smelling the awful smell. I will definitely buy more if needed. I love how quick they got here. We prefer to use name brand batteries because they have more power to do what needs to be done.. If you have any rats or mice in your home, this is the product for you.

I was at first disappointed that the product did not come with the 4 C batteries that it needs to operate. I went to Ace and purchased 4 C batteries. We knew there was a rat somewhere in the house. We chose the pantry as it was last heard in there. I turned on the "on switch" it flashed green and I set it on one of the 5 shelves in the pantry. I also put a standard rat trap with stinky cheese on the floor. We were watching the world series and within 10 minutes the dog perked up her ears and ran to the pantry door (now shut). I thought we should wait a bit in case what we heard was not just in our heads. 15 minutes later we opened the door and sure as heck, I could see the tail. It crawled in and tried to get the peanut butter on the other end. It killed it instantly. No stink, no flopping around, or no issues getting it out of the product. I am a FAN. Love it. If you don't want to use batteries then you can spend the extra money on a USB-charging internal battery. This worked EXCELLENTLY. Thank you

I hate killing anything but recently we have had some evidence of rats in the unfinished part of our basement. I saw the smaller variant of this trap reviewed on YouTube (Mousetrap Monday) and bought and deployed three of these. I baited with peanut butter. On day two, I caught the pictured rat. It was extremely easy to set up the traps (insert batteries, bait, place trap and turn trap on) and also to dispose of said rat. I monitor the traps 2-3 times per day.

I have two of these rat traps and I can’t figure out what it takes to make this thing activate. It says there are infrared beams and fancy tech but all I know is. I put bait in. Bait disappears and nothing gets caught. The unit also says it’s bet safe and while I am doubtful my dog is squeezing his face into this thing to eat the bait I don’t know how this works.I would love to have an understanding of how these beams come into play because something is getting in and getting out and it’s not triggering.

I bought 2 mouse and 2 rat/mice traps and they were easy to setup. The trap has a machine-like scent to it, so I hope the mice can still smell bait through vented ends because I can’t. I used peanut butter and pumpkin seeds for bait. 2 weeks in and no mice as yet. I move traps every couple days when no mice captured to find their flow of traffic. Disclaimer: I am also using peppermint oil, owl sounds, and cayenne pepper as deterents.

I hate to admit we have a rat problem. I got these today and put both of them in our garage. They have been set for several hours and already caught 1 in each trap. I used a pea size drop of Tomcat attractant gel that I didn't purchase from Amazon but I highly recommend both. I put a drop of the gel in each trap with the top off. It would be hard to get it in the spot you need it with just the little door open.

I caught a fat pregnant mouse today. Im an animal lover so I was a little disturbed but that is why I bought it. Just get the small unless you want to catch kittens. The small mouse trap is large enough for a rat and you wont have to worry about the wrong animal getting in there. The big white rat sized one is too big an opening. It definitely worked though! I woke this morning to be forced to dump the fat, pregnant mouse myself and it was just a tip over into a bag kind of thing. No touch or fuss.

We live near a chicken farm so we have issues here and there with rats. Good to get rid of them right away before they breed. A few tips. Wear gloves (to keep human scent off) and clean with rubbing alcohol. I put a tiny amount of bait into the chamber itself as well as the back so it lures them in. They eat a little and get braver and move inside. Very easy disposal. I've used other traps. They've been sprung and no success. I've had them get off glue traps by wedging themselves and pulling free. This works every time. Don't lose hope. It takes a while for them to get used to seeing it in an area. Worth the price.

I’ve tried the usual rat traps. The bait dried up in a day and rarely caught rats. I found out that rats love bbq potato chips and have been able to kill several by putting potato chips in as bait. I love the green blinking light that lets me know a rat has been killed. I just empty the contents into a trash bag, put more chips in it, turn it back on and it’s ready for the next rat. Great product!!!

Last night, I was driving home, on a phone call, when I pulled into the garage. I happened to see a lone mouse, sitting on top of a case of paper towels out there.I hung up, got out of the car, slowly walked out of the garage and around to the front door, walked through the house, grabbed a net, opened the garage door, net in hand, hoping I could catch and release, but as soon as the net was coming down, the mouse ran under the car. I slid the net under the car, toward the mouse, and it ran out of the open garage door. Yay!But, of course, it must've found something interesting in there earlier, so I assume we're bound to see it again.A year or two ago, we had rats outside and I bought the Owltra electronic rat trap, figuring I'd cover it somehow to keep it from getting wet, but a neighbor's cat seems to have eliminated the rats before I got a chance to see it up, so I never used it. But last night, I grabbed it, loaded it up with a dab of peanut butter and batteries, and read the instructions to see how to place it.The instructions said to place it with the opening facing away from the wall, but that left me scratching my head since that seems like it would put the trap *perpendicular* to the wall, not parallel to it.I posted a question about that here and some kind folks replied, but after looking at the *mouse* version of this trap, I think I understand why I was confused (and why the folks who answered might have been confused about my confusion :)- The *mouse* trap has its opening on the *side*, so placing the *mouse* trap parallel to the wall allows one to place the trap with -- as the instructions guide -- the opening facing away from the wall. Easy peasy.- However, the *rat* trap has its opening on the *end*, so that item in the *mouse-version* instructions doesn't make sense (or didn't to me).I believe that the optimal placement for both styles of traps is to put the trap parallel to the wall. (I assume the mouse-trap instructions were written for someone w.

I cannot speak for longevity of this product, but I’ve used it for 24 hours and caught four mice (much to my surprise that I have that many mice). I saw what appeared to be a rat (or a pregnant mouse) casually stroll out from under my deck and to my trash, that’s when I ordered a 2 pack rat trap. Set up was easy and I knew where to place the trap (so far, I only used one trap naively thinking I needed it to catch one big rat/pregnant mouse). Anyway, it didn’t take long before the light started blinking and as I mentioned, we’ve caught 4 mice in 24 hours. We also bought a camera to place outside and I cannot believe the activity I’ve been seeing. I also watched one mouse enter the trap, get zapped and there very little movement after that… point being, it seemed to die immediately, which I prefer over it suffering. I’ve used catch and release traps for my house, which worked well, but as I thought I had a big rat problem, I was not even considering any catch and release situation. These are not intended for use during the rain/outside, so I laid my recycle bin down and placed the trap inside so it doesn’t get wet. Long story long, these traps work as advertised. I def recommend them!

It had no issues with my batteries before the rat went in, then rat goes in, rat alive, and it starts blinking red and green. After getting the rat in a temp trap while I check the batteries , once the rat was remove (alive) I turned the trap on again, no indication of battery issues, guide the rat to trap, same issue. I reseat the batteries a few times and then it eventually works after the rat entered the trap, and finally no more rat. Type of batteries I was using were rechargeable EBL 5000mah C batteries that were freshly fully charged and purchased 7 days ago )It would of been nice to know if the batteries were going to be an issue, indicate before the rat enters

It took me months before I found the right spot to place the trap, so it took a while before I had any results. I figured it was no good until I found a sweet spot along the side of the house. Now I’m dumping out at least one rat a day. I’m typically all for relocating animals elsewhere but my sympathy dries up once I hear them scratching in the walls at night. While “humane” is a strong term, I prefer they get quickly zapped in this device over dying on a glue trap or having their necks snapped in a snap trap. We have kind stray cats that a neighbor feeds so they don’t consider rats a priority, but we also didn’t want to poison the rats, which could in turn poison the cats. And as a grown man who still gets skeeved out at the thought of having to kill AND get my hand close to a dead rodent, I love that they’re in a box and all I can see is a tail. I realize the device is for indoor use, so I only use it in covered areas or take it in before any rain, which has worked so far. Definitely recommended.

We had some mouse trouble in our shed and now in my basement. I originally purchased the victor traps. We tried the mouse and rat trap. The rat trap caught more than the mouse trap and you just dump it so you don’t have to see it like the mouse one. This time I decided to try these as the price for two is what I paid for one of the expensive victor traps. They worked right away and just as well as the expensive victor trap. They are basically the same in every way. These are a bit better tho because the catch light is bright so you won’t miss it. The victor ones flash every 10 seconds so you kind of have to stare at it to see if it flashes. It is basically the same thing, just cheaper. I will absolutely purchase this product again if I am in need. One suggestion, wear gloves when you set it up so you don’t leave your scent and of course when dumping it. This is so easy to use it’s unbelievable. The price is unbeatable especially for the value.

I just got two of these Rat Traps a few days ago. Just tonight I bought the C batteries and set them out when I got home. Well, the units have killed three mice already this evening. I have big rats too (which is why I bought the Rat version) and I hope the rats also start going in these devices. So I recommend getting the larger Rat version - it will kill both mice and rats. Even if you dont have rats now - you might later so get the larger rat version. So easy to dispose of the rodents too - just turn the unit off, lift off the top cover and dump in the trash. I used peanut butter in the bait area.Since I bought two of these units I needed an 8 pack of C batteries - and when I got home one of the units was flashing a red light indicating the 4 batteries I installed might be low - the other unit indicated green (OK).So I switched the batteries between the units and then both units indicated a green light - they were both now ready to go!SO....if one unit says those 4 batteries are run down switch the set of 4 batteries between the units - not sure why there was a freak anomoly like that - but I'm glad both units are working and killing!I also recommend facing the vented bait area against the wall to try to prevent a rodent from chewing it and tearing it up to get to the bait (as I saw in another review). These work! Yes I saw some reviews where theirs didn't work - maybe I got lucky. But all I can say is buy and try - if yours happens to not work then exchange for different unit(s).If these go kaput too early I will update this review but for now very pleased and so easy.UPDATE: It is now July and both units do not kill rodents any more. And I'm sure the batteries aren't run down as no blinking red light. I switch on and the green light comes on for a second and then off as normal - but now the rodents are just eating the peanut butter with no shock at all. Very dissapointed!! These worked so great - WHEN they worked. Wish a company could make a product that lasted.

This is a fantastic little gizmo and dang sure well worth every penny! It is so very easy to operate and easy to clean and easy to remove the dead critter...mouse, rat, chipmunk etc... in my case , i have been overrun by chipmunks and their poulation over the past few years has increased exponentially in spite of the stray cats and hawks. They wouldnt be an issue if there werent growing holes all in the yard and the sound of them chattering to each other in the walls and worrying about them destroying my old wiring in the house. i tried allllll the traps out there including bucket with water and sunflower seeds and ramp, allll of them but they were eh so-so with fair results but i was losing sleep from their chatter at night so i decided to splurge and try this .. i nean hey, if it didnt work, i could just return it! buuuut you have to give it time and move it different areas and study their movements and travel patterns and you have to be patient and wait them out and even keep applying bait so they will smell it. In about 3 weeks , it has zapped 5 chipmunks but there were days in between with nothing. Make sure you have new batteries . The little flip up door to access where to put bait is easy. it doesn't leave much room but i just use a plastic spoon handle to snear on peanut butter then close the door back . one of the zapped chipmunks was so big and hefty that i thought at first it might be a weasel but it was just a mammoth size chipmunk and i was impressed that the zapper had that much zapping power. It was lots of days in between before zapping another. The indicator light flashes green periodically to let you know it has something in it that needs to be disposed of. the light flases red when the battery is going week it has zapped 5 successfully and the batteries are still going good. Hey listen, i am so impressed with this awesome gizmo that i might buy an extra one for good measure and i might buy a few to give as gifts. This is really worth it and then.

I've been dealing with a bit of a rodent problem in my city backyard. At one point, I thought they were have a party because I saw three chasing each other and living their best lives. I've called the city to take care of it for about two weeks now and after leaving countless messages to no avail, I've decided to take matters into my own hands. I own a Belgian Malinois dog and if you know the breed, you know their prey drive can get them into trouble. So, when my dog finally saw the little furry turd she went nuts. Scratched her nose, paw, and side pretty bad.Luckily, the rat trap came in that day and within 24 hours we've now killed two city rats. I used peanut butter and some bird seed, which seems to do the trick. I was skeptical but this thing lives up to the hype. No poison, I don't have to touch em, and when it rains - I simply just bring it in and leave the snap traps in its place. If it can kill Philadelphia rats, it can kill anything. You need to buy this!!!! Happy dog and dog mamma right here!

Purchased this to eliminate some small rodents which have been breeding and increasing in number. We have another brand model which is identical in design, decided to get one of these to increase the chances of killing more rodents.Using this electric trap and the other one, early on we were able to kill a few larger rodents. But for some reason after killing the big ones, the small ones either smartened up or were not getting the full shock of the trap and so were not being killed. The small ones continue to come back and do not get killed and most times we found the bait remaining in the trap, although sometimes not.The conclusion was being intelligent creatures they learned not to take the risk or they simply do not get the same shock as the larger rodents (possibly due to weight and total skin surface area in contact with the metal in the trap). So after continuing to consistently set 2 of these traps daily they lost their effectiveness. We have wireless camera's set up in the garden so we could see the smaller rodents would still come around during the day and night. But the mouse trap kills just stopped. And yes we even purchased alkaline C batteries because they are higher in voltage to make sure the trap had the best chances of getting a kill. No luck however. In the end the solution was bait (the real stuff not the natural stuff). Not exactly ideal since this means they die randomly and all over the place. So you occasionally smell something decomposing but the smell goes away after a week or so.Really did not want to use bait since electric shocks must be quicker and more painless, but it was the only solution that worked and continues to work.If you are going to use bait make sure to read the instructions carefully and use it as described. Most likely it will recommend a "bait box" which allows only the mice to access the bait (no pets).

I've used this trap 4 times and have caught 2 rats. Twice the rodents were able to eat all of the peanut butter w/o receiving a shock. Perhaps the IR proximity sensor is faulty or needs to be more sensitive. I've tried contacting Owltra customer service, they neither answer the phone nor reply to emails, despite asking the buyer to contact customer service if you're not satisfied. The spring contacts that secure the batteries seem a bit weak. Rolling the batteries to insure good contact turned a failed attempt one night into a successful one the next. It's not perfect, but better than any of the other traps I've tried.

I was only able to catch 2 mice before it gave trouble. The green and red lights just flash. I thoroughly cleaned unit and tested and replaced batteries. I had it sitting on top of a box of boards where I knew there were either mice or rats (probably rats from the walnut shells). Rats never even ate bait. Finally put it in my shop. The light problem went away finally. Found a salamander probably eating my peanut butter but not tripping unit. Company sent out new unit. Haven't had a chance to try it yet. Mice haven't been a problem yet and mother cat is taking care of rats. Will know this winter. May try one in basement.

I hopped up and grabbed this mouse destroyer from my back room (I live in a NE DC apartment with only 4 units) where it’s been sitting since February 2022. I saw it run in and quickly run out. Meaning it probably only hit that first sensor. I kept hope alive and prayed it would go back in there. Sure enough, I here the zapping start. It sort of kept zapping and then it gave one final long azz zap and then it stopped. I’m almost scared to look inside because that mouse has to be charbroiled with how long that zap went on for. With that said, highly recommend getting one of these. I also turned up the neurojammer and that was probably driving it insane and why it ran into the death box like a dummy. 5 Stars!

The rats at my house are smarter than most politicians. Granted, that’s not saying much. But since our neighbors cat disappeared they have invaded our house. At this point I’m quite sure the rats had something to do with the disappearance. We’ve tried multiple traps and certain chemicals “guaranteed” to attract and terminate. But these little rat b*stards learned and adapted. One rat died from the chemical warfare. One rat almost got caught in a trap. None of the other rats would go near any of the traps after that. I tried store bought ones, and home made ones. They just wouldn’t bite.I would sit in the living room at night and watch them run by the traps and food. I ended up naming them and getting to know their personalities. Chuck was my favorite, he was rambunctious and bold. He’d sneak into the crate with my dog to steal dog food. Angela was way more timid. She ran away from everything. Dog start snoring. She ran. Someone flushes a toilet. She ran. Anyway, Chuck and Angela were the first two rats who got introduced to Ben Franklin’s little friend, electricity.Unlike other traps, it has worked over and over again. It’s designed in a way to make them feel safe. Plus, since there is no blood or gore, they don’t seem to realize their friend just died in the trap a few minutes before.I was kinda sad when Chuck and Angela took their last poop. But glad I don’t have a rat problem anymore. I just stayed up and checked the trap throughout the night the first night and fried 5 rats. Why are there so many? Anyway, can’t recommend enough. If you need to eliminate some rat b*stard from you life, this thing will get the job done.

You simply lift off the top housing, place bait (peanut butter) in front tray, replace housing, insert batteries, place along baseboard where you suspect mouse and rat traffic is, then turn on the machine. You will see a brief green light appear for about two seconds, which tells you the machine is activated. WARNING: do not stick your finger in the hole to see if it works. There are two electric eye sensors inside the machine and both have to be activated before the unit will work. It’s not likely you would set the machine off but if you did, you would receive an 80,000 V discharge, similar to a stun gun. It would not be pleasant. Not recommended for children to play with.

I bought this after another rat killing product failed miserably. I set it up and put it into the garage where those disgusting rat bast@rds were pooping all over everything. They were REALLY wary of it though. My camera caught them constantly checking it out and running away from it. I had bait in the end where they could smell it but not wat it unless they went into it, but that just wasn't an option for them. It took me nearly a week before I decided to use some of my cats dry food as a lure. I would make a short trail of the cat food up to the electrocution device, but they would just eat the food and not go in to get the main bait at the end. So I continued the trail into the device and that did the trick. Three dead rats from this device later and there has been no more sign of them and that was just over 2 weeks ago as of 4/11/2022.Definitely worth the money as long as you bait properly or have really stupid rats.

I have to say, I was a little hesitant on buying these as they only take C batteries. I gotta tell y'all, these things are awesome! The house behind us has been abandoned for about a year. Rats have taken advantage of this and living in the yard and palm trees. I usually shoot them but they are quick! I decided to give these a try. I installed the batteries, put some peanut butter on the bait side, set them in the yard, within 2 hours we had one. My wife heard a strange sound so I went to check on them. It's cool, the lights on top flash to let you know there's something in there. Sure enough there was one. Another hour passed, got another. Just checked again, another. I'm ordering 2 more right now to put near our chicken coop when we put it up this week.Do not hesitate buying these. A very minor cost to get rid of these nasty varmints. So well worth it!

I ordered this because we had rodents smelling up the house. It was so bad I was convinced we were infested. The rodents turned out to be 1 shrew. I even caught it in a 7 lb dog cookie box one night and put it out in the yard. 2 days later it was back in the house. I put down several devices to catch whatever was eating into food boxes and smelling up the place. I didn't know it was 1 shrew till it was caught. Turns out shrews eat mice and snakes, and dislike sharing territory with other shrews. They are also venomous. The device that caught 1 shrew was a Victor snap trap. It looked like it was a quick and easy kill so I have decided to stick with that device in the future. I am returning this device because I hate buying batteries. I wish it came with a plug. But the device is impressive looking and I gave it 5 stars for the fast delivery and easy return.

A lil cheddar, peanut butter. Sprinkled tiny pieces around trap and a couple more on the black dividers inside. Got 2 in 4 day period. Easy to clean.

Ordered the Owltra Rat Trap just earlier today at the end of the work day around 4:30pm, and it was delivered 9:30pm same day! Set them up with peanut butter and a few crumbles of walnuts before I showered and went to bed. 12:20am and I'm trying to fall asleep when I notice the hint of a blinking light coming from the kitchen! The only difficult part of the process was debating whether to get out of bed to dispose of the rat body. I was dreading it, but figured if it worked that quickly and well, I should reset it for the night... might get it's rat buddies. It was a bit daunting seeing the long tail sticking out, and I completely didn't expect the rat to be stiff. I didn't touch it, and wore disposable gloves, but the tail didn't flop when I picked up the trap. Didn't even have to open it to get rid of the body, just shook it a little bit and the rigid rat came right out.No mess inside the trap... just added some more walnut crumbles and set the trap again!I think reviews of rodents still alive might be from the mouse trap trying to electrocute rats? The rat trap definitely killed it dead. I watched a couple YouTube reviews and think the sprinkled walnut crumbles really helped get the rat in there and nosing around. I made sure a couple of crumbles were stuck in the peanut butter as well.As of right now, about 1:40am, 4 hours after receiving this item, I would definitely recommend this rat trap!

  • L***g ★★★★☆

Caught 5 rats in my garage. Works well but I wish the bait area was bigger. I use peanut butter but since one of the metal plates rolls right into the bait area the trap can be shorted. Had to be very careful to not let bait touch plate. Also I tried using on the porch but it doesn’t like any moisture so the batteries drain. Rainy season. I didn’t put it in the rain, just under the porch but its not lasting. Well worth the money anywhere indoor.

So I recently found the tiniest droppings and I was unsure if it was a mouse. My daughter left her candy in her brothers room and I found the wrapping shredded up and the candy nibbled on. I looked up mouse droppings and they looked too big compared to the ones I found. I ordered this trap anyway and I set it up last night and placed a piece on candy in it rather than peanut butter. This morning I go upstairs and the green light flashed. Sure enough this little guy was in the trap. I always heard running too upstairs and my daughter mentioned seeing something move one day. I'm glad we found the culprit and that we were going stir crazy.

  • A***y ★★★★☆

It works but product wasnt new, there was a dried peanut butter leftover already inside

  • M***z ★★★★☆

I bought this to try along with another brand of covered jaw type traps. Same bait, was emptying the jaw traps every day or every other day while waiting for this to work. My problem eventually went away with all the jaw traps working so well. Fast forward a few months and I needed to set a trap in my shed. Decided to try this out on it’s own and see if the jaw traps were just lucky. Replaced the batteries and got nothing but a blinking red light. I wiped it down with a dry rag just to see if maybe it was dusty from not seeing any use. Kind of sad that this thing never caught a rat when they were obviously around. It didn’t even last long enough to get a second chance. 3 months and it stopped working without ever catching anything. Save your money and stick with normal traps.Edit for 2022: the company reached out and sent another product to me for free. Very nice and pleasant customer service for them to help fix the dud. The new one works but I didn’t have the same amount of traffic from pests to compare my previous views of this versus the jaw traps.

  • M***u ★★★★☆

Works great but I'm not a fan of having to buy new batteries so soon after using it (about a week or two). If you have a dog, put it where it can't reach the trap.

Updates on Jan 19/2021Product Customer service contacted me and offered a replacement or refund.I did try a different trap and it did work and for that reason I opted for the refund.Since I don't have much mice activities I won't be able to test the replacement. They said the product they shipped to me might be defective. It's great that they reached to the customer and offered a replacement or refundThis device is totally useless. Didn't even catch a single mice after replacing with new batteries.I had a different trapper previously and it did catch about 12-20 mice in couple of years, but it stopped working. So replaced with this device hoping that it will catch some, but after couple of months, this one didn't catch any at all.

Super simple to set up and use, was also able to dispose of the rat without touching it and get the trap back up and running in 5 minutes or less. Really happy with the results, caught the first rat in less than 24hrs with only a pea sized dollop of peanut butter! We tried catch and release traps first with no results, and I refuse to use glue traps or snap traps due to chances of finding the rat alive in need of a mercy kill after suffering. Similarly, I wont use poison and risk hurting local wildlife, neighbors cats, or my own chickens. This was a great solution for a more humane dispatch, and effective too!

I have tried every different kind of rat trap out there to catch this guy. Weeks I've tried. Nothing worked. And then I purchased this. And within an hour and a half of placing the trap under my sink... BOOM! I could not be happier. Buy this thing. Seriously just do it

  • A***n ★★★★☆

Used the rat version for our mice problem since that was the only item in stock. It sounded to good to be true but really works, again and again.Only issue is that it has to be reset after each kill, so if left out overnight can only make one kill a night. But very effective. For bait I put peanut butter on a piece of microwave popcorn.

  • P***l ★★★★☆

I liked that my unit arrived before the suggested delivery date, and when it did, the trap was heavier than I expected, having heft that suggested quality. The instructions - what few there are, this is not a complicated contraption - were clear and it was easy to load the bait area with a dob of peanut butter (I suggest using normal salted / sugared peanut butter, I eat unsalted / unsugared...apparently, rodents aren't as healthy living as me, they didn't like it!).Installing the four C-cell batteries was simple, you slide the cover and the orientation is clear. And turning the unit on and off via the slide switch on the top is also obvious, with a green LED that lights up for a moment when you first enable it. My unit was running for over three weeks before the rodent event, so it does not chew through C-cells.What's not so obvious is the green 'flash' when the unit is tripped. It comes on once every ten seconds, but the LED also flashes occasionally when the power is on to show the batteries are still charged, it would be more obvious if the 'tripped' LED signal was a double flash or some such (I expect they do that to extend battery life, but flashing LED's like that don't use much power). Or even better, spring for a red LED to indicate the trap is sprung.I had two false alarms - and I know something was eating the bait because the peanut butter disappeared - but third time was the charm with the salted, sugared stuff. I heard the unit trigger that third time, it was a loud snap sound. Removing the rodent was simple, you can either take the top off, which is easy, or in my case, I just shook the animal out. There's not much more to say, it's a straightforward trap that's safer and less messy than a spring-loaded one. I bought this because the neighbour's cat often strays into where I needed to set it up, and there's no way pussy was putting a paw down the back to where the electric pad is so it was not losing one of its nine lives exploring the unit.Expensive b.

  • L***B ★★★☆☆

This thing didn't work as well as I was hoping. Critters can pull the trap away from the wall to get at the peanut butter. Numerous times it has triggered, but no body in the trap. It has only collected one chippie since I received it.

muy buena opción para atrapar los ratones…. Son muy listos..

  • j***n ★★★★☆

The device works great. Killed several mice with it. Thing is it will sometimes kill a mice but the LED light won't alert you to it. And that my friend equals bad smell, if you know what I mean. So yeah other than that I highly recommend. Rodents will definitely come to it because it's a NON THREATENING looking thing. I think most rodents are aware of conventional traps. They never stop coming to this thing. But again to the manufacturers: work on that LED issue. Only happened once but it happened. Great product 👌🏾 👏🏾

It is very easy. Batteries not included. Suggest using gloves when settings up. Strong plastic smell so I aired it out for 2 days before using. I was not having much luck in the house. Worried it was useless. For a week I had it in my kitchen with no kill. I put outside for 1 night and killed one so, it works. Guess I just don't have a rat in my house anymore. Yay!

Item arrived exactly as shown but didn't catch a single rat with it. I'm glad I didn't though because I realized I would have felt horrible if it had worked. I purchased a live trap instead and have caught and relocated 5 of them.

They should have designed this thing to have electornics and battery in a much more water resistant case. I set mine up one night outside and found a dead rat in it. Great! But it had rained during the night and I never could get the thing to ever power up again. Lot of money to spend for only one rat! Surely there is something better out there.

  • P***1 ★★★☆☆

I like that you can just tip the critter out without touching it and it sure beats prying open bloody, messy snap traps. I just wish it would work on the rats I bought it for.

This product is amazing when it works - easy to bait, a clean kill, and easy to empty and reset. A couple weeks and a few rats later it stopped working. The bait was gone but no sign of the now fat rat. A cleaning and change of batteries didn't fix anything. So it worked out to about $8 per rat - debatable whether it was worth the money.

This trap killed the "grand daddy" rat that lived in my shed. This was a BIG rat, I used poison and the old snap traps but it was fazed by neither. I put this out and used peanuts for bait. Killed him on the second night I had it out. I highly recommend this product, I'm thinking of buying another one.

Ordered a Owltra RAT Trap and was sent the Owltra Mouse Trap instead. Needed the item for rats not mice and it's too small for intended use. I did click on the right item when ordering but was sent the wrong item. Be careful which item you click on and examine the item when you receive it. Should work fine otherwise.

  • M***a ★★★☆☆

I’ve had it for a month and haven’t caught the mouse/rat. It opened the trap door and ate the peanut butter clean.

  • S***r ★★★☆☆

It definitely kills mice and rats but you absolutely shouldn't leave it in an area you wont be in often. I had a mouse die in such a way that it made some kind of connection between two parts of the trap and it continued to release electricity long long long after the mouse was dead. Other than that, great product.

  • T***r ★★★★☆

Rats in the garage feeding on cat food. I removed the cat food. Put in this electronic trap following directions and a couple of feet away set a wooden snap trap, both baited with peanut butter that the roof rats like. Over the next 10 days the electronic trap caught 1 rat and the snap trap caught 4 rats. Electronic trap + batteries = ~$35. Wood snap trap = $2. So yes, the electronic trap worked but the snap trap worked much better. No more rats since then and I plugged the entry holes. Problem solved.

  • J***n ★★★☆☆

The video indicated that this product was wifi compatible and would notify me when the trap needed to be emptied. Unfortunately it doesn’t. Too much effort to return. Chalk it up to “you got me”. Bait and switch for sure.
